Hasta la VISTA baby.

Should I wait for Vista SP1 or Vista SP2 - or should I just dash straight out and buy it as soon as it's released - trusting in Microsoft and hoping that this time I might be sold a thoroughly prepared and secure product?

But seriously what a name.
I think The Register summed up the bullshit best:
"The corporate video accompanying the announcement went some way to filling in the details. It seems using Vista will, at last, enable you to: sit in front of a computer, show someone your tablet PC, show someone else your mobile phone, get into cars while carrying a laptop and walk through sun-soaked rooms with highly polished floors, even while being buffeted by pulses of multicoloured lights."

Where did they get the happy enthusiastic people for the audience of the name launch of Vista anyway? Were they extras from a Disney movie or something?

Wait for Apple Mac on Intel, it'll turn up before Vista does! It'll be better, more reliable, more intuitive to use and won't suffer the issues that every Windoze product does, apart from coming from M$ that is.
Before anyone accuses me of being a Apple zealot, I run a mix of XP Pro and Red Hat Linux (currently), although everything is slowly being migrated to Gentoo Linux - it least, will be when I can be arsed!
Steve.

Steve,
what does that mean?
Is it Apple OS on a PC, or Apple OS on some proprietary Apple hardware that happens to have an Intel CPU in it?
cheers, Martin

The next range of apples will be using intel chips.
Apple confessed at the last thing they do that they have had OSX running on intel for five years.
Although apple has no plans themselves to make OSX for PCs specifically, its apparently going to be pretty easy to run OSX on a PC.
Apparently some developers have already got XP and OSX running side by side on demo Intel Macs.

From what's been announced, Apple are dropping PowerPC from IBM and going to Intel, they got in a huff over IBMs reluctance to produce a less power hungry processor for laptops.
From what I've read, PowerPC for Apple is a miniscule amount of IBMs PowerPC sales and the changes Apple want to the processor are not worth IBMs while to fabricate.
IBM is in a win/win situation at the moment as they will be producing variations of the PowerPC processors for Sony (Cell), Nintendo and Micro$oft so it doesn't matter who sells what, IBM wins!
Apple going to Intel means that Apple can use cheaper hardware and more generic parts which will level the playing field against PC manufacturers. In this case though, it will still be an Apple motherboard so don't expect to be able to buy OSX to go on any PC. From what I've heard, developers who have the Intel OSX dev kits have found that OSX will install on any generic PC kit.
If apple launched a shrink wrapped OSX, I'd certainly buy it and get rid of M$ altogether, though moving to Gentoo will do that as well!

Yes it is a bit of a concern apple will no doubt goto generic parts for its computers. However the good news is apple are usually at the forefront of new technologies so there is little risk of a four year old graphics card going in. If it makes them cheaper I am all for it.
I don't think IBM could give a toss about apple, and fair enough, intel (on the surface at least) seem keen to work with apple. I am sure they would much prefer there 'Ding, ding dang dee ding' tune on a nice apple mac advert as opposed to a Dell advert.
Having just run up a bill nearing 3k for the kitchen, I don't see me being able to afford a new make when it emerges any how. Ho hum.
As for Windows new name? well it would appear like most things they simply took it from something else seen, in this case a company just down to road from Windows head office lol:
