Blackalicious in da House

Posted by: Jim Ashton on 05 February 2004

Caught Blackalicious at Galatos last night. Man they were stone delicious. Such entertainers. Such relentless movers of smiling energy. Such heady involvement with an audience. Such a powerful commitment to a singular aesthetic.

Anyone share this experience with me?

And wha' you's all think 'bou' hip-hop anyways?

Hi Jim,

Are they over in NZ now? I saw them weekend before last at Good Vibrations in Perth. Really good aren't they? Really got the crowd going, with a big, intersting, multi-faceted performance from all concerned. They were greatly appreciated and really got the Belvoir Amphitheatre moving.

Interestingly they were followed up by Gangstarr-the Guru, Big Shug and DJ Premier. These guys were so obsessed with proving that they were the hardest gangsters in da house, that all others were fakes etc. that they managed to turn off the crowd in droves with their aggression. I only stayed for 4 tracks and then saw Moloko instead. Good move.

Cheers, Jens
