Heathrow HiFi Show

Heathrow HiFi Show
Less than 2 weeks to this year's hifi show!!
Naim are displaying at both Heathrow and Olympia
What are they displaying at each and what will we be able to hear (and see) at each?
Last year they had a static display of the new top-of-the-range kit at Heathrow, but not a working demo of the top gear. Can we expect a 'head to head' competition between Naim, Krell and ML ?????
Cheers

What new products can we expect?
One or two DVD players seems to be the worst kept secret.
A subwoofer has already been seen in the newsletter.
There has been talk of a bookshelf speaker to complete the AV product line.
A new tuner (or two) are under development. Will they be ready?
Heard some rumours about a new reference phono stake. (Perhaps this one is only wishfull
thinking.)
Anything else?
Hans

Honest opinion please:
Is it worth cancelling my appointments for Friday and taking the day off work?? If it's generally good, then I would go, but so often these things can be of very limited interest.
Whaddayathink?

Judging by the way dealers and Naim employees have been offloading NBL's recently mayby a Mark II version is on its way.

Thanks Tom. That is exactly what I will do then.

Rasher,
You could opt for Sat or Sun thus avoiding the need to take a day off work (unless like me you tend to work Sats and Suns)
I agree with many that LISTENING to music at a hifi show would be a poor basis on which to make a decision to spend hard-earned cash.
But having a 'look-see' and a 'quick listen' across awide range of equipment, might open your mind to new possibilities.
These would be explored at your liesure, after the show, via appropriate dealers.
OK, you could dismiss a perfectly good piece of equipment because of a poor room and conversley follow up a poor piece of equipment because of a half decent room next door, but generally, my experience is that decent equipment still sounds better at hifi shows than awful equipment.
And the food is usually a bit limited and a bit pricey.
Cheers

Having a young family, I would be with my kids, and I don't think they would benefit any enjoyment of mine at a hifi expo. I can lose a day at work, but not at the weekend.

Surely a HiFi show is a creche!

Hi-fi show demos usually sound crap, often due to poor room acoustics, but not always. The Naim demos have often sounded truly awful in comparison to how I know they can sound. If the punters buy stuff on the strength of what they may hear at a show, then surely companies can lose a lot of customers this way???
I bought my Densen B200 preamp direct from the Chester Show in October 2000 - it was the one used in the Densen/Ruark CL20s room and sounded superb for a show. On that day, the CD5/FC2/112/150/Credos sounded really good, but the top-flight CDS2/52/500/NBLs was bloody awful. Go figure.
Regards,
Steve.

Steven has a valid point for newcomers to the show.
If you're new and never heard Naim before, be aware that the hotel environment (poor electricity, acoustics and crowds) often dramatically drops the sound quality standard. Now and then there's a great sounding set-up at the show.

...however, Linn equipment is unaffected by such trifles.
