I am currently running a Musical fidelty Xcan2 with Hd 600 phones. How does the headline sound as a recent upgrade has left me with a hi-cap doing nothing.

The sound is very good with a HiCap. Intricate, involving, smooth, not fatiquing. The HD 600 headphones are actually more detailed then the sound through my speakers (and I have very good monitor speakers).
