Nait2 (olive) Vs 282/200

Hi all

Thought I'd drop a line as I've had to take a temporary backwards step.

My 282 developed an annoying fault as part of my AV set-up. Didn't stop it working though I had to turn the unity gain off, consequently it's been sent back to Naim for repair.

I've had to dig out my old faithful Nait2 (which I thankfully have decided to keep and not sell) and put it back in the rack.

What I'm astounded with is actually how good a little amp it is in comparison to the 282/200. Don't get me wrong, I still prefer the 282/200, it's just that I could still live with the little Nait.

The only thing missing for me is the detail and finesse of the 282/200.

I'm not surprised how sought after the Nait is, always did wonder why the ebay prices for them got so high, now I know Big Grin

Just goes to show how good it is (IMHO) that I could still live with it even after 14 years of owning it.

I still remember the initial shock of buying my first sistem with the Nait in 1989, at 21 years old, it all cost nearly as much as my first car. Nearly went backwards off the chair when I was shown the bill! I sill have the receipt as well from Grahams Hi-Fi.

I also remember when I bought my first NAIM system (CD3.5 , Nait 3 , etc) a few years ago - I never thought that my finances would ever recover . I was right .

I just sold my first preamp the 92r and do enjoy my 82 but it also showed me that my little 92 was a great preamp. I'd hold onto the nait2 just to be safe in the future. It could be the begining of a second system in the future. It is a classic now.

A couple of hours after my first post, got a phone call saying my 282 is back. Have picked it up, plugged it all back in again.

All I have to say is Woooooo! Big Grin

Have just picked up a NAIT 1 as a reserve when 72 goes for service. What a cracking device how did they get so much NAIM into such a small box. I was a bit worried but it certainly lives up to the reviews. Big Grin Big Grin
