Anorak Connector Spotting 101

Posted by: Craig B on 27 February 2002

Paul S. got me wondering about the configuration of some of the earlier NACs when he mentioned that the 552 wasn't the first Naim pre to have RCA connectors factory fitted.

As the product history pages on the main Naim site don't yet offer much in the way of details, could any current or former owners of the following pre-amps confirm the number of inputs and types of connectors...

NAC 12: 3 inputs; Phono (RCA), Tuner (DIN), Tape (DIN)

NAC 22: 3 inputs; Phono (RCA), Tuner (DIN), Tape (DIN)

NAC 32 (bolt together and sleeve case): 5 inputs; Phono 1 (RCA), Phono 2 or Aux (RCA), Tuner (DIN), Tape x 2 (DIN)

NAC 32-5: 5 inputs; Phono 1 (BNC), Phono 2 or Aux (BNC), Tuner (DIN), Tape x 2 (DIN)

NAC 42: 3 inputs; Phono (RCA), Tuner (DIN), Tape (DIN)

NAC 42-5: 3 inputs; Phono (BNC), Tuner (DIN), Tape (DIN)

NAC 62 (old and new style): 4 inputs; Phono (BNC), Tuner (DIN), Aux (DIN), Tape (DIN)

NAC 72 (early version): 5 inputs; Phono (BNC), Aux (BNC), Tuner (DIN), Tape x 2 (DIN)

NAC 72 (later version): 5 inputs; Phono (BNC), Aux (DIN), Tuner (DIN), Tape x 2 (DIN)

Any help in confirming (or refuting) any of the above would be appreciated.

The "Aux" input on late model 72s was renamed "CD"

James,

Thanks for your input (tee hee). Was yours pretty much like this one except for the phono input?

Surely you should gain some REPs for having an input labelled CD?

On the other hand, maybe your points should stay the same and, everyone who doesn't have an input labelled CD should gain some FEPs. I mean, having a CD player plugged into an auxiliary DIN input in this, the year 2002, must count for something. Shouldn't it?

The question is, how many points would be fair? The more I think about it, the greater the number of FEPs that seem justified.

I'd think the chrome bumper/black bumper FEP question addresses the Aux/CD issue. People gain FEPs for running chrome bumpers, which would invariable have Aux inputs as opposed to CD.

I'm not even sure if early model 72s had CD or Aux labeling.

"I'm not even sure if early model 72s had CD or Aux labeling."

Spent some time with an earlier (s/n 66xxx) 72, and it was labeled 'aux'.

Cheers,
Jim

Is the correct answer...

A.

Thanks jcc and AndyK for not leaving Mike S., James (Sybil) and myself alone in Anorakville.

Would anyone else care to take a cruise down Anorak Drive an drop off a contribution or two?

The updated list so far...

NAC 12: (early version) 3 inputs; Phono (DIN), Tuner (DIN), Tape (DIN)

NAC 12: (later version) 3 inputs; Phono (RCA), Tuner (DIN), Tape (DIN)

NAC 22: 3 inputs; Phono (RCA), Tuner (DIN), Tape (DIN)

NAC 32 (bolt together and sleeve case): 5 inputs; Phono 1 (RCA), Phono 2 or Aux (RCA), Tuner (DIN), Tape x 2 (DIN)

NAC 32-5: 5 inputs; Phono 1 (BNC), Phono 2 or Aux (BNC), Tuner (DIN), Tape x 2 (DIN)

NAC 42: 3 inputs; Phono (RCA), Tuner (DIN), Tape (DIN)

NAC 42-5: 3 inputs; Phono (BNC), Tuner (DIN), Tape (DIN)

NAC 62 (old and new style): 4 inputs; Phono (BNC), Tuner (DIN), Aux (DIN), Tape (DIN)

NAC 72 (early version): 5 inputs; Phono (BNC), Tuner (DIN), Aux (BNC), Tape x 2 (DIN)

NAC 72 (later version): 5 inputs; Phono (BNC), CD (DIN), Tuner (DIN), Tape x 2 (DIN)

Thanks Jon, for dredging up this old thread from my recent Anorak period.

I've since sought medical help, however, the meds have sent me on a Kan preservationist tangent.
