Politicians, can you live with them?

Posted by: Henners on 04 December 2007

As our misguided politicians continue to shoot themselves in the foot at every opportunity and do us the disservice of expecting us to believe a word they say any more, is there an alternative?

I'm not advocating dictatorship at all, but is there a better way for us all to feel that the whitehall village much beloved of spin doctors and political inbreds, should be disbanded.

Surely the savings would be astronomical?

Any suggestions?

Infrastructure is one of the most important jobs of government - things that are taken for granted like roads, water, electricity and regulations that keep the irresponsible in check, police, courts, civil disputes tribunals, libraries.

Of course, a return to feudalism would be good for some people - like those fellows that dress up in medieval costumes in the weekends and run about hitting each other with fake swords.

And in the UK in spite of trying to do it for many years they fail at it because they always chase visions rather than seeking good management.

I read a quote somewhere recently that went something along the lines of "politics the shadow cast by big business" now more than ever before i feel.

We could outsource the Government - put it out to competitive tender and go with the lowest bid that met the specification. I'm sure we could get some good people to come across from Poland to do the job for far less money than Brown and his cronies and I'm totally convinced they'd do a better job. They'd have a 5 year contract and it would be up for renewal towards the end of the term.

Sounds worth a try to me.

The reason I asked this is that I have 2 ideas

1 is on the califirnian line in that you vote for loads of things on the ballot paper and the government has to do what we voted for.

and secondly as any business man will tell you it costs money to make changes - how about we have party that says its going to do nothing for 5 years thats new. Oh and we will save a fortune as well and give you some money back.

Politicians say that they will save money with some of the schemes that they preach about.

I never see any savings ever. just more taxes - its like the Olympics, where will the mythical profit go that they spout relentlessly about!

More coffee needed

My short blunt view is - Politicians never listen to what the people say and when they do it's quite frankly always to late!

What about running it as a free-phone helpline from India.

Of course, you'd have to sit through a 700 number options menu and then wait on hold for a representative to help you with your call. And listen to Grover Washington or Kenny G hold music...

I bet that if we did away with Westminstwr, HM Q Elisabeth could do a better job than all the rubbish ellectected since Churchill [ie. 57 years ago], and only in two weeks - in other words apart from squashing some really stupid laws, inventing no new ones - there are far too amny already!

Kid yourself not - democracy sucks only marginrally less than unrestrained capitalism, and then only margianlly less then one party state communism.

We will see about big business's effect on Government - I hear that the EU or EEC or whatever acronym they are using this week, has decided that car manufacturers must average 120 gms/km by sometime in the future.

Im sure BMW will be offering a bike with every car bought so the average comes down or Shell will double the price of fuel so that their profits will remain the same.

Either way I think that joe public will suffer because our unimaginative politicians want their place in history. May be thats it - if the world comes to an end any time soon there wont be any history to be part of.

Sorted.

Ban history lessons at school hence no need for politicians.

Cool

Great idea and it'd be cheaper; to most people, especially business people, that's all that seems to matter in modern Britain. I think help lines from Brazil are even cheaper; doesn't matter if the agent can't understand English as current politicians never listen in any case - so there be no change.

Govermental politics has become tedious ever since the iron curtain went down and 'new' Labour stole the Tory thunder. Now all politicians appear indistinguishable, all are well versed in speaking in public and majority of us (the English sitting armchairs who love to moan and never do anything about it - except the nice long protracted legal way which politicians love - less dangerous than action)view them with contempt they deserve.

However I do like Boris Johnson, he is refreshing, different and entertaining, a small light amidst the grey mass. Smile
