Socks

I don't know about you lot, but my socks just wear out very rapidly.
I stocked up on some socks before Christmas, chucked out the whole sock drawer and bought ten pairs of new black socks. I then picked up another 5 pairs of Levi's socks in the states when I was over there.
When they get holes, they go in the bin. I have about 5 pairs left now and the Levi's socks I have on today have a hole under the heel now.
Any suggestions for invinsible socks anyone? Can you get Kevlar woven socks by any chance. I walk a lot and I walk fast. No I don't have long toenails - I'm very particular about keeping them neatly cropped.

I use 1000mile socks for running. The type I use are an ugly short running version, but there appear to be loads of types. They've stopped me getting blisters, and show no signs of wear. They are a sock within a sock, with some low friction liner between them. I dunno 'bout the other types, but the ones I use aren't any thicker than normal socks.

A few weeks ago I made the mistake of buying socks (from Next I think) with the days of the week on the sides. Not sure, er, why. It just seemed like a good idea.
I've now developed a kind of obsessive compulsive disorder about matching not only the pairs (hard enough) but the pairs to whichever day of the week it is. If I fail in this quest each morning and show disrespect to the Sock God he will wreak vengeance and I'll have a shit day at work.
So remember people - keep'em plain and keep em simple. Buy plain colour socks so that you don't have to try to match individual ones. That way you evade the wrath of the Sock God. I don't even want to raise the issue of the Underpant God. Gibber.

Wigwam Ingenious
Have just been trying a couple of pairs out for a few weeks now and so far I am impressed.
These are sport socks - mine are a light hiker actually. I use them in street shoes day to day, as well as their intended purpose. ( Not dress shoes of course )
They are made of two layers - Outer is merino wool, the inner olefin. The idea is like wearing a sock liner and outer sock combination. I have found they provide great moisture control, very comfy ( they stay up !! )resist stink, and seem to do a good job of temperature regulation.
So far they easily top Smartwool, Thoro and Fox River that I also have.
HTH somebody....
regards,
michael

I think we're talking about work socks for the office, right?
I'm also a fast walking dude and I use Thorlo for all outdoors activities, and I imagine their dress and casual socks are equally well made and comfy. Their little cushion pads make me feel like I'm walking on pillows, whereas Wigwams make me feel like I'm walking on something hewn out of ragged wool by early settlers (haven't tried this Ingenious one though).
Re: kevlar woven socks, there's a company that makes them for mountain biking but they usually have logos of chili peppers, big cogs, rabbits on bikes, and other random gnarly stuff.

Distressed Wool
While I like the Wigwam's Ingenious better, I do like the smartwool sock, it just seems that I wear the bottoms out pretty quick. The regular Wigwam merino wool socks do tend to look like an persian cat after awhile ( wearing a pair at the moment, and they are pretty fuzzy. They are fairly new, don't think they have much staying power.) The smartwool's are definately better than the Wigwam merinos.
I don't know what the Ingenious will be like in the warm months, currently doing the snow thing. I wonder if they may be a bit much for the hot summer months, they are not over thick tho, so I guess time will tell.

Britain's ex PM James Callaghan was quoted as saying " One shouldn't try to put ones socks on standing up over the age of 75 !!!"

My two socks worth...
For durability in casual socks, I think the Thor are unbeatable (though the Smartwool breath better).
If you mean durability in a dress sock, the best I have found are the house brand sold by Nordstrom in the US. While others donĀ“t last me more than a season or two, my Nordstrom socks have lasted 5 years. I believe they use a hearty Australian wool with just enough nylon.

not sure what you guys are on about, I have a magic sock draw that only contains clean matched socks that never wear out, never need replacing and always look smart, they also come in a varity of colours to suit all occasions,Iv'e never found out how it works, but have a bit of a sneaking suspicion that my better half might know something about it.
The same seems to apply to the magic shirt shelf and trouser store.
take my word for it this is the best way.

Nordstrom
I echo Madrid's sentiments. Besides Nordstrom's socks I also use their t-shirts and they outlast the competition 5:1.
Nordstrom should make condoms.
