Crazy cartoon

Does anyone remember a wierd history related cartoon that was on a saturday morning? Can't really remember what it was on about but at the end it had a sequence of evolution ending up with some geezer blasting off in a rocket (set to some well known classical music). Maybe called 'once upon a time/life/.........?' Please help cos no-one I know remembers it and I'm worried that my mind has invented it. Paul.

ps seemed to be very violent for back then and was possibly foreign and dubbed

I do vaguely remember this and that it was only the title scenes that were animated and it was Tocata en Fugue (spelling?) on the organ in the background (you know, Duh-Duh-Duhhhhhh, Duh-Duh-Duh-Duh-Duhhh-Duhhhhh-uhhhh-uhh-uhhh-uhh-uhhh! It may have been an overseas programme but I can't remember title sorry.

Maybe it's "Il était une fois l'homme".
Here is a bit of reading. In french, though.

Vague recollection too, TrollBoy - particularly the opening scene with Toccata & Fugue. Doubt it was French though.
