Windows media player 'play to' feature

Has anyone managed to get this to work with the Uniti?

Anybody??

With windows 7, I can see the Uniti in the 'play to' menu box, but when i try to send mp3 tracks to it, it says the file format is unsupported.
I suspect this may be because of some kind of DLNA compliance issue, as mp3 is obviously a supported format.
see link for description of this feature: Win 7 WMP play-to feature

When running W7 32 bit:

If I select mp3 or wma files in Windows Explorer and drag and drop them on the WMP 'Play To' window for the Uniti then I can play them, and adjust the volume.

Flac files just disappear when I drop them.

I have not tried this before as I had not realised that it was possible, so thank you for pointing it out!

Really? Does it also work if you add them to the 'play to' window from within Windows Media Player?

Windows Media Player does not support Flac files, so i'm not surprised they disappear.

Has anyone from Naim done testing on this feature? I run Win7 64 bit.Incidentally, there is a similar function available through the Foobar UPnP component, but i can't get that to work either. The error i get with Foobar apparently means that the Uniti did not allow the action (setting the play URL) to be successful.

Some official feedback on this would be much appreciated.

Cheers

I forgot where I found it but there's a FLAC plugin somewhere for WM that should fix that.

An alternative ...

Just seeing this thread I thought I'd give you Windows folks an alternative in the form of the J.River Media Centre software. This also supports UPnP as a UPnP server / control point so has similar "play to" feature. I think Foobar 2k also does this.

Maybe worth a look for people who want this kind of functionality.

The same question was asked a little while back in this thread.
"Play to" works fine for me from Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit to my Uniti.

Interesting. It doesn't work for me.
Do you just set the Uniti input to the root of the UPnP page before playing?

Yes! (I did anyway)

Yes, I just put the Uniti into UPNP (PC) mode, then used the Play To feature.

OK,
I replaced my router, and now 'Play to' works fine.
Previously I had the standard O2 (UK network) router - a Thomson TG585v7. I replaced this with a D-link 2640B.

I'm not sure what settings were blocking this before, but i'm pleased it now works as it opens the door for armchair browsing Smile

Good to hear that it is working for you.

There is a recurring theme here. ISP supplied "free" routers are not of a sufficient quality to support an audiophile streaming system. Either replace with a better ADSL router or, better still, use a dedicated switch and/or access point for your local network (eg. Apple Airport Extreme).
