Ropey sounding ECM release?

I buy quite a few ECM CDs and they are always really well recorded. However, the new John Surman release, 'Brewster's Rooster, sounds distincly dogdy. Some tracks are fine, whereas others sound compressed and murky. This seems very strange for ECM.

The music will need a bit of getting used to as well.

Nigel - which tracks sound murky to you?

The first track sounds fine; just like usual. Then tracks two and three sound as though the band have been covered by a blanket. These tracks are louder than the first of course, but it seems odd to aim for murky production - it's not very 'jazz'!
