Rega RB 1000

Posted by: Markus S on 28 October 2003

Dear all,

I have bought a Garrad 401 and now need to decide which arm to put on it. The front runners so far are the Zeta and the Aro. However, I'm also intrigued by the thought of the Rega RB 1000.

Does anybody have experience of this arm? There don't seem to be any reviews of it yet.

TIA for your comments.

Good point, Per. How much are those spacers?

The Rage web site mentions them prominently, but, AFAICT, does not give the price nor the height of the tonearm without spacers.

The 401 assembly positions the record pretty high above the plinth. I never thought I might have to use spacers!

I know about the PM article. But he put an Rega P9 motor PSU and the RB 1000 on an LP 12, so he never heard the RB 1000 in a situation where the arm was the only varable, I believe.

Unfortunaltey, that article is of no use to me as I don't intend to get a Rega PSU.

I have spoken on this subject at length with Loricraft and their view is that the Aro is far better than the RB900. They have not done a RB1000 test on a 401 so it is gut instinct which will be the best.

I went for the Aro and am very pleased with it.

I would have sold the the Aro had it not come up to expectation and my plan was to then go for the RB1000 as a second choice.

It is a difficult decision.

Mick
