Sleepwalking

It's interesting times in our household. My five year-old sin has developed a habit of sleepwalking.
He has quite often, in recent months, uncontrollable crying/ screaming fits. I understand that you should not try and wake a child in this instance but simply comfort them as best as possible until they settle. This can take 20 minutes or so.
More recently (past two weeks or so) sleepwalking has become the thing. I have just redirected my son from a bedroom where he was trying to go to the toilet (!) to the toilet itself. Settled in no time after doing his business.
By comparison my daughter did not go through this phase. The joys of children.

Michael,
had the same thing with one of ours. We took the same approach as you and it stopped after about 6 months. Hasn't happened again in 10 years.
The worry of kids...

I know some funny sleepwalking stories, like when a friend went to stay with the future wife's parents for the weekend to meet them for the first time, got drunk, ended up sleepwalking into the parents bedroom and pissing in their wardrobe.
But seriously...
I don't think it's anything much to worry about, but I would want to cover the obvious bases, like find out that everything is OK at school (I'm guessing that he has started only this term), or that there is nothing else upsetting him. Firstly, look for anxiety. Then take a look at what he had to eat before bedtime. Anything different to any other night? Make sure he isn't upset or worried about anything and if not, then don't worry.
Seems odd if this has never happened before.
I'm sure he was just so over-tired that just wasn't able to wake up fully, but he knew enough that he had to go to the toilet and just got disorientated. There is no way that he'll remember it though, and it probably won't ever happen again. It was probably either that or wet the bed. Good on him that he made it.

Did you call your sin Oedipus?

There was an incident, on my previous platform, of a chap sleepwalking in the buff from his cabin in the accommodation down to the control room asking if anybody had seen his red balloon......
Not sure of the outcome but I don't think he works off-shore anymore.....wouldn't fancy explaining that one to him in the morning though!
Hopefully your five year old is just going through a phase......

Sin, woops, bit of a typo. He is in good spirits. Started school full time in September and seems to thoroughly enjoy it. His teacher says that he is doing fine for his age (the youngest in the class). He has recently become interested in stories and trys his best to write even at home. Seems to have taken to (simple) maths quite quickly and often asks me to give him tests!!! So I guess it is a phase but we will be watching developments very carefully. If this continues we will take hime to the doctor, just in case.
