This weekend and the weather - what did you do?

Posted by: MichaelC on 20 March 2005

From zero to almost 20C in a week or so. Strange days.

What did you do this weekend?

We went to Brighton today - left early and saw all the motorbikes on the way down to Brighton. I assume there was a vintage bike run judging by the number of vintage bikes on the road. The bikers were out in force on their Harley's too. My four year old loved those big bikes!

Parked up near Preston Street - we were on the beach late morning and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves building sand castles (yes, sand can be found on Brighton beach!!!).

There was a group of musicians and their girlfriends on the beach next to us and we enjoyed their sing-a-longs. One of the girls from the group then spent a couple of hours helping our children build their sandcastles!

Fish and chips (ugghhh - somewhat greasy) for lunch too.

Lunch time on the beach was packed - and all this in March too!!!

Mind you I needed to wear a jacket with the breeze bringing a slight chill to proceedings.

Brighton seems to be turning into a better place compared to a few years back. Live music at one of the beach bars. Beach volleyball courts, basketball courts.

A lovely day out and the children were exhausted and asleep not long after we begun our drive back.

Very nice too, although the blade ive ridden didnt seem to understand the word 'gentle' ...except in the context of gently waving the front wheel in the air!?

Next weekend I thought I'd climb Everest twice, though on second thoughts maybe just the once as I might be a touch weary after jogging along the total length of the Chinese Wall on saturday night, there again I might finally begin decorating my kitchen as the paint and materials keep staring at me in a funny sort of 'Go on then' sort of way ?

Fritz Von Might watch some footy and get pissed for a change though to break the monotony ? Big Grin

I’m no brain out loony (well maybe rarely) but the amazing thing about the blade is I find it is as gentle or as ballistic as you like, you could get a pint of milk on Sunday morning or get across Europe in an afternoon.

I can see where your coming from, especially when you consider what the blade is ultimately capable of, which is well beyond my talents i hasten to add!! First time i took one out i had to cut through rush hour Slough and i must admit i was expecting it to be much harder work than it was, its a world apart from earlier bikes, as is the new 600RR..
It could be that first proper dry day of the year feeling, but that RR was an absolute belter.. the small changes seem to have made such a difference to an already top bike.

I'm am serious, I'm probably going to enjoy quite a few bottles of Bud to celebrate the official announcement date of the general erection, as well as Laura Bush deciding to stop giving him food & water pronto, innit.

Fritz Von I had an old Greves 350 once !Some local Gypsies showed my mates and I how to get it running etc, brilliant until the police came and smashed it up for us (all on private land I may add) Big Grin

When the first injected blades came out I had the experience of taking one out round Donnington on the full circuit. This thing had been out of a crate for 2 hours!

It started to rain as I got onto the circuit with an instructor. Donnington in the pouring rain is......interesting.

Bloody scared the life out of me. Nothing like hanging off a bike braking into corners with the back end snaking and the front end skipping.

Went past someone on a CBR600 who was tucked behind the fairing revving up against the throttle stop whilst accelerating. Went past him on the back straight like he was out on a Sunday cruise on a CG125. It's amazing how short the back straight was on the blade.

Did I mentioned that the early injected blades were either on or off the throttle? Trying to pick up the throttle through the corner was causing the revs to spike every time causing the back end to slide round.....woohoo!

An eventful time!

After thrashing this bike round the track cacking myself, we had a look at the dyno graph from my track time, what did the instructor say? "That was good but you need more revs!" The revs were just under the redline as it was!

Think I need to do more track days this year at Brands (my local circuit). Big Grin

Was this anything to do with the Ron Haslam race school? One of my work mates is trying to get me to do the one to one course on the blade... sounds like a good day..

On the subject of bikes - one of the Harley's (or Harley type of bike)we passed on the way down to Brighton had the biggest rear wheel/tyre I have ever seen on a bike let alone a car/lorry. It could have come off a steam roller (if you get my drift). Bizarre.

Yup, that was the Ron Haslam school. Used to go up there quite a lot so we got away with a lot. 2 1/2 hours of 1 to 1 instruction screwed me up big time though, couldn't move otherwise! They're a bit expensive though as you're using their bikes. Also, if it's the first time you've been with them then you'll be out on a CBR600 on a 3 students to 1 instructor basis.

If you want to use your own bike, the best people to go with are the European Superbike School. They run a tight ship with good instructors. They do pure instructor led days and also track days with instructors so you can go out on the track with one as many times as you want. They get booked up real quick though!

Steve.

Michael, if you want to see big types on a bike, you wanna look at a Boss Hoss - has an 8.2 litre V8 engine and makes 502 horsepower!
