HDX start up problem

Posted by: andrew jameson on 24 May 2009

My HDX seems to be playing up

It won't get beyond 'Starting' when it's plugged into the network but will fully start up when I remove the ethernet cable. The player functions perfectly when it's not on the network but it's obviously deeply frustrating given I can't rip anything or control remotely.

I've tried totally powering down (I use an XPS too) and restarting to no avail - I've also done this without the ethernet cable plugged in to see if that helps reboot the system but no joy

I'm not at all clued up about IP addresses and DHCP etc. but it feels like this is where the problem lies - I'm speaking to my dealer on Tuesday but anyone got any bright ideas in the interim

Thanks

That's your problem. Try rebooting your router with the HDX turned on. If it's IP address has been taken by another item, that should get it back. If not, wait for help but I'm certain it's an IP issue. There's a few things that can cause an IP problem that aren't fault situations but are probably best left for your dealer to sort. Hope the simple way gets you up.

Andrew,

Did you set up your HDX DHCP or Static mode. While the manual describes DHCP since it doesn't require any technical expertise or programming, the problem is that other items on your router can get tagged with the IP address.

If you set the addresses of the HDX (there are 2)and you set them above your DHCP range this will not occur again.
