AV2 Newbie setup probs...

Posted by: ntom on 09 March 2006

I have just bought an AV2 which I am using in conjunction with existing Naim pre & power setup.

I am having a few problems getting up & running & wonder whether I am doing anything daft...!

-Firstly whenever switching just about any function or volume change etc there is an annoying click as the function / action takes place -I presume this is not 'normal'..?

-I cannot get the the first coax digital input to work. Play same digital feed into coax 2 & its ok. Into coax 1 & says no signal... Could this be a down to a setting I have made anywhere..?

thanks, nt

hiya,

I'd like to know if that annoying 'click' can be stopped too.

as NT said, it happens all teh time with just about everything and even happens on occasion when actually just listenin without changing ny setting.

On a side note, as the techinal guys at naim are probably gonna be looking into this, can anyone update us on where we are with the problem of no SUB output when listening to music in STEREO mode please.

Thanks all

We are beta testing the AV2 firmware at present, its on mine this weekend. It will be released as soon as we are happy that it works as it should.

Did you mail info@naim-audio.com concerning the clicks?

Hiya, Thats GREAT NEWS about the new testing of the updated firmware to try and solve this issue! out of interest is this update purely for the no sub in stereo issue or is there any other upadtes included?

I must admit i didn't email Naim.

I'll hold off bothering you guys till the update is complete then 'kill too birds with one stone'

You've made my Easter knowing this problem may get sorted!!!

Thanks guys!

Twan,

1) The bass mix on stereo issue

2) 3/2.1 track showing 2/0 after pausing

3) Correction of EX/ES matrix modes

are amongst the fixes in this release.

You need to mail to the previous address to chat about your clicking problem to deduce what is the cause.

Its worth noting by the way that in beta testing it was found that (which complicated matters):-

a) some DD5.1 disks are actually encoded with the EX flag even though the case of menu does not specify (The Incredibles for instance).

b) some discs marked EX didn't have the EX flag at all (Star Wars II I think was one of them)

c) some ES-Discrete films (Final Destination II for instance) didn't actually have the flag.

(This may vary depending on the vendor)

I believe the Incredibles has an EX-Flag sountrack according to the box, check out:-

Yes Polarbear, I expect they do....

mine does not tho. We had a good look for it and it is not on the one I own.

I also noticed that Monsters Inc didn't has "DTS" logo on the box I have. But it has a DTS soundtrack on it...

The Star Wars EX flag missing is a known issue.

Thanks for that info Naim!!!!

Looking forward to this update when its completed!

I understand what you say regarding disc's not being flagged up correctly, i cant remember which dvd's they were but i came across this issue now and again with my old denon.

On a side note, My AV2 has just been fully updated with the up to date firmware and i assume the new pic chip. At the moment its still with my dealers Rayliegh Hifi (who arranged the update for me, great service from both you guys at Naim and them), would you suggest leaving it with them for another few weeks to see if this update is ready for release?

Twan,

See you mailbox, you should have a reply.

(It easier to converse via mail than on the forum concerning more technical matters).

Best handled through your dealer/distributor - if they need assitance we will provide it.

Talking about firmware updates, is it an important technical problem that my AV2 refuses any firmware update ?
At my dealer, the PC sees the AV2 but the AV2 doesn't seem to answer. This automn it even visited l'Audiodistribution where it's been "repaired" ??? I don't know what they repaired because it came back exactly as it was with the same firmware and the same "un-updatability".

It doesn't have any other problem, the AV2 sounds perfectly, it is just too bad that I can't sync with my DVD5. I have been told that I was to have it sent to the factory ?

There may be a fault, but....

that sounds like the com-port settings needed adjusting to get the two devices talking correctly...
