Any Wayne Shorter fans out there?

I was listening to Wayne Shorter's Night Dreamers and Juju last night (both Rudy Van Gelder editions). Jazz sounds fantastic on a Supernait. The guy was a worthy replacement for Coltrane.

Will history place him on the same exalted pedestal as Coltrane?

What is your favourite Wayne Shorter album?

As a life-long Weather Report Fan there's some really interesting info here. For some reason it's Joe Zawinul's solo stuff that I know better (and Jaco's)...so I'll check out some Wayne solo work.

......Thanks folks!

Thanks for the reminder ... It will be a long time before us mere mortals reach the karmic status of 'immortals' such as Lontano! Frown The plus side is that until then, ... I can still see my reflection in the mirror and there is no aversion to garlic or holy water. Winker

Thanks Lontano! The God(s) is/are smiling on us today. Smile

Just got back from work and playing the clips through the Supernait now.

I don't know whether or not the Rachel Z collaboration followed on from Santana Montreux but I did read that Rachel Z did the arrangements on 'High Life' with input from Wayne and that she stayed at Wayne's home whilst putting the album together.

I have a DVD of the Montreux concert and it is just amazing to see all these greats close up. I just wished that I was there when the concert took place.

Yes, I was thinking of the 'Native Dancer' album re: Nascimento. 'Odyssey Of Iska' (and the even less well known known 'Moto Grosso Feio' ) precede that album by a few years.

Bob_B:

Thanks for the tip!

Sadly, 'Moto Grosso Feio' is only available from sellers advertising on Amazon UK. For some reason, they will not deliver to my home address or even to the place where I work. Confused I do not have such a problem with anything I buy directly from Amazon.

Lontano:

You look ... err ... different from the photo in system pic 2010. Winker

Really nice set up you've got there!

ETC etcetera in 1965-would be my fav. In 64/65 he did the two you mention above plus ETC, Soothsayer, All Seeing Eye, toured Europe and did studio ESP and live Plugged Nickel sessions with the Miles Davis quintet plus other albums with Lee Morgan - Search For New Land, Gigolo, Memorial and several other masterpieces with Art Blakey (Big Beat, Free For All, Indestructible..). Was he in demand ? Mind boggling .

Personally prefer his Blue Note and Weather Report recordings over his later stuff.

What do you think of it? It is described on Amazon UK as a glimpse into what Shorter was before his great Blue Note albums. Sadly, no clips to listen to on the site. Frown

Try this link to Amazon Germany where they have samples up.

Brilliant:
Agreed! He was in fantastic form during that period both as a player and composer. In other words, just ... 'brilliant' ! How can one man do so much in so little time???

I prefer his Blue Note albums too especially when listening at home. In my car, I also enjoy listening to his fusion albums such as 'High Life'.
