turntable setup problems...

Posted by: Alco on 02 September 2001

Hi folks,

I have the following problem:
My system really has to stand in between my Kan's.
But since there's also a fireplace in between them, the system support has to stand in the middle and in front of the Kan's.
(I hope you guys understand what I'm trying to say)
Now,if I want to get me a TT (and I still do) I have to place in on top of the already 63cm high system-support.
I can imagine this would have a negative influense on the sound, since the TT would be on the same height as my Kan-II's.

Now,
I do have a sturdy piece of pinewood furniture (looks a lot better then the system-support and could hide all the cable-apaghetti!)
This piece of furniture is 83cm width and only 49cm high.
Would it be a good idea to put a TT, on a dedicated TT-isolation platform,on top of the pinewood furniture ? This way the TT would be at a lower level then the Kan's.

I made a little drawing to make things clear.

what would be wiser: example-1 or example-2 ?
...Thanx,Y'all!

Whilst having the LP12 in close proximity to the speakers, particularly I front of them is less than ideal, I believe the support the LP12 stands on is likely to impact sound more than it's absolute height with regard to the Kans.

Presonally I'd try both, but my money is on the example 1.

As an another consideration, can you mount a wall bracket above the Kans?

Owing to lack of space in the current room layout, my system and TV (no speakers) is crammed betwixt the Kans - it doesn't look clever but sounds great.

Nice system picture,Andrew!

Unfortunately,I can't mount a wall bracket above my Kan's.
There's a large pinewood CD-rack mounted on the fireplace,about 8 inches above the Kan's.
(see picture)

Alco,

dunno about the performance of the dedicated racks aginst the furniture, but your CD will benefit from separation from the Flatcap, which may help to redress the balance somewhat.

cheers, Martin

Allowing for my hideous attempt at drawing over your picture, I rekon you could comfortably fit a deck under the cd rack, using mirrors and string.

Na really, I used to have this set up for my deck, however as you have a heavy beast it would need to be well secure. basically its a plinth, this plinth is contacting the wall along one edge and secured with the use of strong braided wire coming out from either edge, secured very well to the wall.

I had the plinth contacting the wall with only two spikes into allen key holes in the wall, however with the LP12 something more secure would be required.

Anyhoo just an idea

Thanx for the replies, but a wall-bracket as you mentioned Gary,is not possible. Because that way the bracket would still be at the same height level as the Kan's.
I'm afraid the only option is:

A wall bracket at the place where my pinewood CD-rack is hanging right now. (though I hate the looks of a TT on wall-brackets!)

or with a little compromise...

Finding another system support which is not higher than 20 inches (50cm)

I figured that, placing a TT on top of that pinewood furniture would place it belowe the Kans but also closer to the right Kan.

Damn, I guess I shouldn't have sold my previous Atacama "Europe" support which had 3 shelves and was about 48cm high. (though the Sound-Factory did sound slightly better)

hmm,well
Right now,I'm gonna do some searching on the net at system-support manufacturers websites.

See Y'all.
