Van Morrison- Moondance etc rematsers

Posted by: ewemon on 21 April 2008

I have just gone onto HMV Japan's website and noticed that Moondace remaster is due to be released on the 25th June. Cdjapan also list them for coming out the same day.

In fact it looks as if a batch of his Warners stuff is about to be issued remastered. The Japanese discs have different catalogue numbers than current stock.

The first Rickie Lee Jones is due to be released as a remaster on the same date.

I've had those two, plus Mudslide Slim, ordered on vinyl from Acoustic Sounds since April last year.

They're now promising late May delivery.

You need to be absolutely sure that is what is being released.

The Japanese have been putting out their own versions of Warners CDs for some years. Examples - Ry Cooder and Little Feat. These are NOT remasters from the original tapes, but from the existing masters they have for release.

Recommendation - wait until the UK and USA versions come out.

Recomendation from me:

Buy the old non "remastered" versions of the CD's that are still available from Amazon. They are made long before the "loudness war" craze of today, have proper unhindered dynamics and sound wonderful.

They are rather cheap to...

Even there you have to be careful, because the original 1980s CDs (which I found a bit dull) were followed by the mid-1990s versions (which I have some of and like). Haven't heard the 2008 ones but some say they're phenomenal, so it's suck it and see. As we say in the UK.
