Blu-ray and normal TVs

At the moment I’ve got a normal, non-hi-def tv. At some point in the future – and it always seems to be extending further into the future – I will get a hi-def LCD. In the meantime I’ve been given some blu-ray disks. I know I can get a Blu-ray DVD player for less than £100, but will it work with my crappy old TV?

It depends on the outputs available on the Blu Ray deck and the inputs on your TV. I've currently got a Panasonic BD35 connected to my old Panasonic 36" CRT but I've had to use the composite output of the deck into one of the scarts on the TV. It works fine and lets us play BDs but obviously it's a compromise. I hunted for an HDMI-Scart adaptor but couldn't find anything affordable.

I use a PS3 into a CRT with a component (or is it RGB? not sure) output from the PS3. It works fine, but obviously it's nowhere near as good as hidef.
