Posted by: Jaseamondo on 16 February 2009

I bought blank business cards from wh-smith that are on an A4 sheet that is pre-perforated. It comes telling you what all the margins are .Trouble is i don't know which program that will allow me to set these specific margins . There must be a easy way to do this ,I feel stupid asking . Anyone got any suggestions PLEASE Confused

You have not said which platform you are on

Choices could be Word, SoHo Labels and Envelopes, perhaps an Avery Label program etc etc etc

AS for the time to respond - you asked the question at 20 to midnight on Monday and you have the audacity to whinge about a lack of response at 9 40 the next morning.

Have you not heard of Google to ask questions, there there is Version Tracker, TwoCows etc etc - which are catalogs of applications.

Any way it's done now and i got to bed about 2:30 and still made work this morning so thats a bonus. Sorry if i caused any offence as it was not my intention. Jase.

ps the only reason i posted again this morning at 9:40 was actually is i had sorted it out myself and i could not delete post ( naim forum thing) as i said above i was only jesting although if any one had been up i would have gladly took there advice.

If it was a named producer such as avery MS Word has all the stuff in it, you just look up the specific code for the paper you are using.

To be fair home printed business cards always look really cheap.

I would suggest that rather than printing on to pre-perforated card, that you make a design with crop marks and print on to clean card and then cut those out with a metal ruler and sharp blade (scalpel).

If you are not familiar with crop marks, here is a CD insert artwork I made with them:

It is best to stop the crop marks juts short of the area you want, so you don not get little unwanted marks at the corners.

I have not found that domestic printers are that accurate at holding the paper exactly as required to match marks, so I print the crop marks with the art/text, and then they match.

Just an alternate suggestion.

What i eventually did was set up margins using microsoft publisher and inserted the same image in all the appropriate boxes , I just made the image slightly bigger than box to make sure it was completely covered when it printed out.My Canon printer did an excellent job to be fair. Next time I will buy plain card and just cut them out i think, I'll be able to use the supplied templates that way. Thanks for the suggestions Folks. Jase
