Why do you choose to post here ?

Posted by: kev 1966 on 02 August 2009

Hi All,

Can I please ask have we all forgotten why we choose to post on the Naim forum...

For me a quite recent member July 08, in my short time here I have experience lots of good advice, use full tips, found a good joke or two and mostly made some good friends.

I would like this to continue I am personally looking forward to the Bbq

To learn from the HiFi & musically informed.
Where else would you find out about Welsh Ragga Metal?
For me 'debating' with the occasional passing bigot is a small bonus. Winker

To find new recordings, to advise my annual naim upgrades, for conversation and companionship, for jokes, for a chance to write about what I care about, to be among the people here.

I tried other forums on classical music and they all left me flat.

And for HiFi, I have no interest at all in anything not Naim, at least in amplification, and this is the place for that.

I've received some great recommendations on music, and also on the best vacuum cleaner to buy. I also try to help on the hifi front whenever I can, and to suggest good albums from time to time. I have met some very nice people through the forum too.

Mike / Nigel,

Your views follow mine.

Jim,

You say habit, habits are hard to break but can be broken.. I've tried other forum like problably most of us. But I come back

So is it the people that make it or is it the forum itself ?

It was something of a throwaway comment. I have a loyalty to Naim since hearing a Linn/Naim system at a Hi-Fi show in Inverness around 1978. I still remember the hairs on my neck standing up....

I post here as in general as I find the content interesting (less so these days with all the garbage and immovable positions taken wrt DAC's), the tone balanced and the contributors supportive.

It's a good place that is better than the ugly side that is being shown right now.

555, im glad i could be of service to you! Smile

Im also a very recent member, and i think (i could be very wrong) one of the youngest members. I get my addiction from my dad, and spent a lot of time listening to equipment and various setups before deciding on Naim. I joined the forum as i enjoy discussing music and Hifi.

I do have an extremely eclectic taste in music, and hope that comes out more over time.

sorry, not a sports guy by any measure.

I started posting I guess like everyone else here because of my love of the high class British music centres naimed above.
Over the years, I have come to regard many of the contributors on here as friends who have given me some good (and not so good) advice about music/equipment/literature et al.
Over the years I have argued with some agreed with others and laughed my head off at some more.
I have never wanted to offend (although no doubt I have)and have tried never to take offence (although I have).
Still, you should know I love you all... (in a manly guy sort of thump in the shoulder way)
Keep posting.
Charlie.

Er, to contribute, to help, and as Charlie said, above. Mind you, the way we collectively treated potential newcomer Lewisimo in March this year gave me serious doubts about contributing again.

Like many others, Naim (along with Linn) is one of the brands I lusted after back in the early eighties when I first became interested in hifi.

I then became the proud owner of a NAIT 2 about 5 years ago and went on t'internet for advice. I stumbled on the Naim forum and stalked for a year or two before finally joining and actually engaging with some of the 'legends' I had observed from afar, like Polarbear, Kuma, Tarquin Maynard Portly and Fredrik Fiske.

Since then I have made some good friends on here, enjoyed some great banter and found a place to exchange views on sport, music and hifi amongst other things. I try never to be confrontational and am acutely aware that the written word can be unintentionally cuttng in comparison to the spoken as the potential for misunderstanding is far greater, so tend to avoid contributing on emotive subjects like politics or religion.

But most of all I find it a pleasant place to come and I have met people I am glad to call friends and who will hopefully remain so.

I'm not too fussed with other fora I have tried.

Just pulling your chain Mike mate.

I post on here, because, there's a common thread of a love of music, and a nice mateship.

From time to time it gets lively, which is ok, as in life, strong emotions are better than no emotions.

I remember crossing swords with George ages ago, and my emotive post was followed by a PD from George...all credit to George, and a lesson is how to behave for me.

Life's too short to get too wound up or offended, but debate and banter is a great thing. I'll never own any 500 series kit, but I own a lot of '500 series' LPs and Cds...nuff said.

I don't care what you care about, as long as you care about something. Sums up this group.

Chaps

I come here to exchange views and information with other people who own Naim.

Naim equipment is streets above the competition, it communicates music in a way no other stuff can dream of.

Naim is the most discussed equipment on Hifi internet fora. It is copied by bodgers, slagged off by envious plebs and loved by the wise and discerning audiophile.

Being an owner of Naim is being the member of a brotherhood and long may it continue.

Not judging by recent experience

A rather narrow view

John

That is your opinion and not mine.

I regard Naim as the market leader in Hifi, I have yet to hear anything that even comes close to it. It communicates music, be it in CD or Vinyl format that stimulates the senses and leaves you begging for more.

That is my opinion and I stand by it.

Yes he would. Mick has not broken any forum rules (this time). He has not attacked anyone personally and although his myopic views are pretty extreme and almost always cause reactions like yours, this is the Padded Cell and why it was setup.

....nearly got sucked in there. Thanks for the reminder Jim. Deep breath

Back OT. I choose to post here as I have an idea that there are some like minded people here, not just on matters hi-fi but life in general, and it's interesting to hear their views and occasionally contribute.
And I get some great tips on new music
Cheers

That was a close one John. I had begun to envisage Richard inviting munch and 555 for a quiet beer Obama style chez Dane before the barbecue. Suddenly it was looking like four of you. Winker

For the first 25 or so years that I owned Naim, as far as I knew, apart from my dealer I could have been the only person in the world using it. Then in 2002 discovered this place and rushed in like I'd found a tribe of lost brothers.

Got a bit of a cool reception I must say from the ruling clique of the time, but stuck around and have learnt a lot, maybe contributed a bit, and made some good friends since.

There were some interesting exchanges (and fantastic content) back then from the forum big boys, most of whom have either moved on or been booted out.
