Hi All,

Can I please ask have we all forgotten why we choose to post on the Naim forum...

For me a quite recent member July 08, in my short time here I have experience lots of good advice, use full tips, found a good joke or two and mostly made some good friends.

I would like this to continue I am personally looking forward to the Bbq

So am I right in assuming the forum and product is the same place it ever was!

So with that in mind is it the users or the odd one or two that have changed the tone of it recently?

I say this suddenly remembering its Monday morning and my head is back in work mode. In my opinion this must be the best tool any manufacturer has, if gains first hand of product or proposed R & D idea design 1000+ posters all with a different opinion fed back direct to the right people...

This helps to make Naim different

Naim aren't the only manufacturer with their own Forum.

Bryston, for instance, the head of the company still interacts with end users answering questions or trouble shooting much like the old Julian days.

I think, however, the Naim forum is probably one of oldest and with the largest registered members out there for hi-end hifi manufacturer sponsored forum.

Yes he would.

Adam would have let Mick's post stand, but would have posted a suitably acerbic response himself.

You need to use yours on your strapline, though!

I hope to hear from IMO the forum's two most eloquent posters, Maxbertola and GFFJ, on this thread soon. Please don't be offended if you are not either Massimo or George!

Best, Chris

I mainly read & post on fora to meet in virtual & reality people who have a interest in music & HiFi. I take the rough & tumble with a smile, I expect to be pulled up if I'm talking bollocks, I expect the piss to be taking out of me and my choice of music (someday you'll see the light), I like to express my feelings about all aspects of HiFi & music with the understanding that it is just a personal opinion and not meant to belittle others choices, I try to use common sense when posting about all subjects and never get into embroiled arguments (know when to shut up a walk away is my advice), I always take a second before I hit send and I read my posts several times as well to ensure I mean what I have written and have not posted out of reaction only. Thats why my post count is low, compared to others (a large percetage of my posts are in the WAYLTKAW thread in the music room), as it takes me 20 or so minutes on average for every detailed post I make, I try not to let anyone get under my skin and always make my own decision on whether something is worth investigating or not. Finally I do try to put myself in other peoples shoes to see if I can understand their point of view if anything try to observe your own behaviour seeing if that might be the root of your frustrations when reading and participating in the forum.

This post has been influenced by the sudden departure of munch, Georges recent seperation with the forum, the above post by Brad and Max's concerns a little while ago as to nature of this forum. I can only offer up my own take on how to stay emotionally calm among a sea of emotionally charged debates that happen on this and other fora. At the end of the day its only music and Hifi and that is a source of constant in a world that is in flux, sit back put on your favorite choons, release & enjoy because thats what a Naim/Linn system does for me and in my world thats money well spent.

I'm sorry to read this Brad. You've had more influence than you probably know, and your balanced views will be missed. I don't know why the vinyl 'wars' have particularly upset you, but you can easily ignore it.
I've appreciated your input over the years, and you were more than responsible for my first dabblings in active operation - a forward ratchet in my listening pleasure

I hope you continue to enjoy your music

Cheers

Actually I have chosen not to post here anymore.

Most of the time this place hasn't been too bad and I have made some good friends. On the other hand at times it has not been such a nice place and as a consequence I have been though a number of forum names since I first joined in early 2004.

I don't understand what is happening to make people take umbrage and leave. I talk twaddle at times and no-one has ever been nasty to me, though I have felt the need to apologise on occasion. It's only hifi after all, which is hardly important in the scheme of things. Unlike real life, you really have no idea what other forum members are actually like. They may be really nice wooly liberal Guardian readers like me or rampant BNP voting fascists, you really don't know.

I choose to post here because I find any query I make is met with several good ideas and support. There is no need to reinvent the wheel when other forum members have already been there and got the t shirt. I probably get most enjoyment reading posts and following discussions rather than contributing. I am nervous about attracting spiteful comment and can see why some members decide to leave. I find a lot of new music that I would not discover without the help of the music room posts. I first used the forum thinking that if forum members recognised quality in Naim they could likely see quality in other areas of life. This spills over into padded cell subjects. I hope to see continued high levels of posting quality in the future. I find a lot of entertainment value in this forum. Thank you Naim and fellow forumites.

turntabalistas surely, or should that be Shirley?

PS: On topic. I post because I love music, or sometimes have a sense of madness or humour. The whole thing has stopped seeing the funny side which needs to return prontissimo to the forum or else it all looks a bit retentive ... IMO of course ...
