iTunes - Help

Posted by: Hawk on 03 April 2005

Ok guys this sounds easy but im making a hash of it and would value some advice from someone who knows how the library works in iTunes/osx.

Basically i use a Powerbook and im just about to run out of memory so i want to use a Lacie firewire drive as the main place to store and access my music. Ive been using the drive for a while as a back up, by just copying the whole music file from the laptop.

The problem i seem to have is that although ive changed the iTunes music folder location in preferences to the lacie, iTunes cant see the music that is there on the drive. I think it must have something to do with the library.xml files?

Ive also tried exporting the library from iTunes, but this seems to export the xml file but not the music ones.

Im sure this should be very easy!????

thanks in advance

go to the final preferences tab [advanced] and change the location for the music files to the external drive - make sure you have set itunes to organise music files and keep them together
then select the advanced menu and 'consolidate library' - all the music files should then be copied to external disk - itunes will still keep library files in your 'home' music directory

hope this helps,
