Hey, I love rock, pop, folk, folk/rock, pop/rock, folk/pop, etc. as much as anyone, but a list of "The Best Music of 2008" with no jazz, no classical, no country, etc.? Too narrow.
All best,
Fred

Yep, granted - it's not all-encompassing. But the Onion has turned me on to some good music in the past.

At last someone else has put Sun Kil Moon (Mark Kozelek) 'April' in their albums of the year.
'Not since Bob Dylan has a singer-songwriter been able to stretch songs out for so long doing seemingly so little, while still being absolutely captivating.'
Other than that, it seems a more interesting list than a lot of the ones linked before, not just mainstream albums, with a couple of more obscure additions to add credibility. Perhaps jazz, folk and classical is not their remit, but an interesting list.

I don't know much about these guys but I checked out the list. Its not particularly comprehensive, granted. Unless you are going to widen it, I am not sure how much wieght such a list carries.
Don't get me wrong, I love Flight Of The Conchords - they are hilarious. But anyone who genuinly beleives the 'musical part of the equation is just as enjoyable' - needs to develop a deeper sense of humour....or listen to more music!

What! No stompin' Tom Connors?

BTW Flight of the Conchords, this is so bad. I've seen a couple of episodes and it really is poor, surely there is something better out there?

I listen to the all songs considered podcasts on npr. Much of the stuff here is stable foder for all songs considered. I guess it clearly is more rock/pop orientated but their is some great stuff there much of which has been on my radar this year such as
TV on the Radio - great
Bon Iver (album of the year for me)
Frightened Rabbit (who I had tickets to see but couldn't make it)
Los Campesinos - who were very danceable at Green Man
Death Cab for Cutie
Sun Kil Moon- absolutely agree with jamie L (up there with Bon Iver as album of the year)
Hold Steady who for me keep producing the same album over and over again (but hey that my opinion)
Drive by Truckers - who again were awsome at GreenMan but often leave me cold on record
Fleet Foxes (which I have but can live without)
Gaslight Anthem- who i have never heard before now but sound promising in a Bruce kinda way.
Thanks Winky, if you like this try all songs considered.
Regards

I don't know a single person who doesn't find the TV show hilarious. That being said though, I agree that the songs on their own don't really stand up. It is a common problem with 'comedy' music.
