NaimUniti Streaming Problem

Posted by: Jon Myles on 29 August 2009

Don't know if anyone can help here but....
I have a MacBook with EyeConnect installed.
NaimUniti sees it plus all the files but when I try to play anything all I get on the front screen is: Connecting Please Wait.
Also (and may have nothing to do with it) but when I then switch to Internet radio I also get the same message. Turning Uniti off then on again restores Internet radio sound but doesn't help with music.
Music files are stored in iTunes and ones I'm trying to access are imported from CDs - not itunes purchases.
Anyone any ideas?

Yes I had exactly the same issue with eye connect. As an experiment do what I did. Turn off the uniti. Then turn off eye connect.

Turn the uniti back on and wait for the input to come on line. Turn on eye connect. It will appear soon eneough and should work.

I found eye connect pretty poor. There are two others I can recommend. Allegro, and Play Back, both worked far better than eye connect. Its a shame because eye connect seems the most professional. It just does not like being 'on' before the uniti, or vise versa.

ONe other pieces of software to consider is XBMC which is free. Its fully fledged media server, but its not resource hungry and can also act as a UPNP server.

Hi Jon,

I have Eyeconnect 1.6 on a MacBook Pro streaming to a Uniti, running wireless on both ends and it works... so there is some hope it can work!

As you can browse the library it sounds like you have already authorised the Uniti in EyeConnect as a valid device to stream music.

Things to check:
Make sure you don't have any other UPnP server software running as well on your Mac. It maybe fighting for the same port.

It's possible your modem/router is blocking (or messing up) port 2170 which is used by EyeConnect to stream audio. Ensure its on latest software and browse the settings in the devices builtin setup to see if anything regarding filtering traffic on LAN is mentioned. Post your make and model of your modem/router will help.

If running the Uniti wireless, then try it on a wired connection.

Hope that helps.

Provided that all server applications are utilizing different TCP ports, there shouldn't be a problem. EyeConnect + Allegro should work without any changes, as EyeConnect uses a slightly different port by default.

Agreed on the sensibility of testing wired functionality first, wireless second....

Hi Dave,

Reason why I suggest checking for other applications is that I have all the UPnP servers (and control points) I can get my hands installed on my Macbook and I find that Songbook MAC and EyeConnect fight with each other. Typically Songbook gets a thick lip and crashes. Agree that port wise they shouldn't be clashing but hints that there is some global resource that they are both fighting for. Maybe because they are both allowing sharing of the iTunes library to a render...?

I find that the Content Directory management in Allegro is better and gives far better response times for Uniti when browsing up and down long lists. EyeConnect is slow in returning the results for a section of a list (Uniti grabs 50 items at a time) and on very long lists can trigger the please wait intermitently on Uniti.

The allegro software I got is an update, I emailed the guy because I was getting crashes and he sent me the beta. IMO its the best of the bunch at the minute. Clean and fast. Just a shame it does not allow one to select other folders, only itunes, which kind of pisses on FLAC usage.

Thanks for the replies.
Haven't had the chance to try the advice today.
I'm using a BT HomeHub 2.0 and am aware this might not be ideal do not want to spend extra to replace at the moment until I'm sure everything will work.
I'll try reseting tomorrow and see where that goes.
I'm getting the feeling that buying a better router and paying for software may be the way forward but there seems to be no foolproof way out there.
Thanks for the advice though. I'll go through it all tomorrow, see where I get and report back!
