DBL Passive Crossover - Old Chassis from SBL/DBL

Posted by: Chambermusic_friend on 08 December 2003

Hello,

what could I do with my DBL Passive Crossovers.
I tried to sell them by Ebay - and did not get any bids.
Now I am thinking to use them to build a loudspeaker on my own using
High frequency: From Linn Index Loudspeakers
Mid range: Older Chassis from the DBL (I have two pairs should I use them both? Probably not)
Low Range: Bass Chassis from SBL.
Has anybody any notion if the result would justify the work of assembling the whole (and building a provisiory Loudspeaker?.
Is there any way to regulate the signals to the different chassis that I could use not beeing an Electrical Engineer (I do not know the calculations...).

Thanks for your advice

Why do you have old drivers from a DBL? Was there an upgraded version of this at some point?

Hello,

I bought my DBLs with relatively new Crossovers 168XXX and a SNAXO 3-6 to be able to start with passive, then going for the 6pack (or 3Times 250).
Unfortunately I was not completely happy with the (Up to date) DBLs. I liked them very much for music playing in the background when I was doing something else or enjoyed them with Pop/Rock....
Queens "My sheer hart attack" were PERFECT.
But coming from Audio Physic Virgos I had the chance to get some Audio Physic Avanti 3 .
They are better in details for Chamber Music and high frequency (Flagolet from Violins...) but of cause bass is missing (I hope I will get a Subwoofer Minos one day to compensate).
So I found myself with 3 good speakers- I sold the DBLs to Denmark and the buyer wanted 135s, SNAXO and the DBLs. So I stayed with the passive Crossovers.

Best regards
Peter

Hello again:
I reread your question drivers - you mean the speakers.
The first owner of the DBLs is closely connected to the Naim Audio represenative in Germany. He changed the Mid range Chassis twice (DBLs 8XXXX Vintage). I think best you ask at the technical service which the improvements were.

Greetings
Peter
