Quadraspire reference + LP12

Posted by: David C on 29 January 2002

Dear All,
Please could someone tell me whether the Lp12 works well on the quadraspire reference? Is it 'safe' to put an LP12 on a wobbly top?
Many thanks
David

Last week I received a brochure from Quadraspire and there was no reference (pardon?) to a Q4 Ref wall shelf. Nevertheless I've seen some earlier postings about them. Can anyone confirm that they do exist and how much are they?

Cheers

Dave

If this wall-shelf is the same one I recently bought, it was newly available about 3-4 months back and cost £150. My LP12, cirkus, ekos, arkiv and prefix are doing well on it!

Thanks for the reply. As far as I can tell from the brochure, the wall shelf you have might be the standard Q4. Does it have the cut out?

With a decent dealer it is possible to order Quadraspire stuff right down to individual component level - i.e. some wall brackets, a shelf with a hole in it, and a set of Reference Spikes / caps. The only problem is that the shelf with the hole will not turn up for bloody months…

Patiently waiting for four shelves with holes in them.

I've tried them too and can agree! However, quite fancy a Fraim wall shelf so that party time can include the LP12!

Anyone try the Fraim with additional base units (more than two) or addtional empty shelves (more than one) under their source components? Just curious to see if the Fraim has upgrade potential.

Also debating over whether or not I should sacrifice my cds' performance and place a NAT 101 on my only empty shelf under the cds. My preamp's hicap will be forced to share a shelf with the 101's SNAPS as well. The playroom's floor is a minefield now with cables, 101 and a napsc-which might get wall mounted before it's all said and done.

All suggestions appreciated.

regards,

dave

...as I've moved on from those days, great though they were...

...but the QS Ref wallshelf DOES exist, and I have one in my living room right now. I've not tried it with an LP12, of course, as I upgraded a while back (less said about that the better wink ) but the QS Reference Shelf is NOT AT ALL wobbly in normal use, although there is some give if one pushes it - but not as much as the floor-mounted rack has.

The Mana wallshelf is a fine bit of engineering, no question, and works beautifully under the LP12. It is, however, much heavier than the QS Ref shelf, so check that your wall and means-of-mounting can take the weight - I had a Phase Mana 7 wallshelf, and the weight (100Kg+) on four 3.5" screws eventually ended in tears. The Clearaudio on the QS Ref wallshelf sounds considerably better than my LP12/Lingo/Aro did on the Phase 7 Mana wallshelf, but I suspect that's more to do with the deck's qualities than any failing in the Mana.
