Stands Unique wall shelf...

Posted by: Boz on 09 March 2003

I need a wall shelf for my LP12/Aro as from what I have read here people don't recommend LP12 on Quadraspire Ref stand.

Anybody here tried the "Stands Unique" Transition Wall support with an LP12 ?

If so how does it sound ?

Can't go for Mana wall shelf as just too ugly (even in silver) but may consider also a Quadraspire Ref wall shelf.

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have any direct experience of the Stands Unique wall-shelf, but do have an LP12 working quite happily on top of one of their equipment tables, despite it being on a suspended wooden floor which is quite springy. The table seems to eliminate footfall problems OK and the overall sound is fine. You might get some further help from Infidelity in Hampton Wick - talk to Peter who's the LP12 king there.

I use the Stands Unique wall shelf for my LP12.I cant say about how it sounds because I have just had a Pre-Fix fitted(it was on an Apollo modular stand)but my CDX sounded better on it than on the Apollo.Anyway the Linn sounds great so it cant be doing anything to bad to the sound.

Sorry Boz, couldn't resist it. Seriously, If you really can't cope with the Mana (esp. in silver -- yech, what next...) I would have thought that the QS Ref wall shelf could be fine with an LP12. It will have the added advantage of an accessible inspection hatch underneath.

I've had some experience of fixing a QS (standard) wall shelf -- you need a masonry wall, a brand new drill bit and (IIRC) about 12 "stud & nut" Rawlbolts. It isn't worth skimping.

Hi David

I have been using the Stands Unique reference wall shelf for some six months now - it's not bad. Unfortunatley little hands and a fascination for the tonearm means the LP12 must be out of reach for the time being.

The shelf took a little while to put up - it needs to be secured to a masonry wall with substantial bolts. Take time to ensure that the holes drilled for the bolts are as level as possible - I found the subsequent fine-levelling of the shelf itself to be quite fiddly.

Looks wise it meets with the all important approval.

Character wise - I am unable to compare the shelf to my old turntable stand but from memory I do not feel the overall character has changed a great deal. If challenged I would say that my preference would be for a dedicated stand (leaner & quicker?) but I am talking about very fine differences.

I hope this little bit of experience is helpful.

BOZ,
I have a mint Quadraspire shelf for sale. I only took it out of its packaging once (re-packed now) No longer required as a neater solution for me was a longer interconnect.
