Noisy Speaker
Posted by: Rey on 11 March 2003
Hi there,
Recently i expericened the speakers not working properly. Both woofers on the speakers moved forward and back and created noise. I play the record very often. This problem occure after I started playing the record. Before i only listened the cd and radio. My system is as follows:
nac72/hicap/nap250/cdi/nat01/Linn Nexus speakers.
Could anybody suggest me something that I can look at for this problem? Thank you very much.

HELLO REY SOUNDS LIKE FEEDBACK FROM YOUR TURNTABLE TRY MOUNTING IT ON A WALLSHELF OR MOVING IT FURTHER AWAY FROM YOUR SPEAKERS

Hi Ray
You dont say what Turntable you have. From the description it sounds like a mismatch in the tonearm/cartridge combination accentuating the low level info in the warp region. Can you describe the noise you hear and the turntable combo.

It's just subsonics. These are usually caused by external events, footfalls, vehicles passing. It can also be feedback from the speakers. Repositioning the turntable, use of stands (Fraim, Mana, Hutter etc. ) can reduce or eliminate this. If the turntable is on a wall bracket you may be coupling it to the wall and picking up vibration from there.

Hi,
Thank you for your response. I am currently using Rega Planar 3 turtable with RB300 / Elys.
The noise was generated from the both woofers that move forward and backward. Would it be better to position the turtable on another stand since I have all gear on the same rack. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Rey

Hi Rey
Rega tonearm and cartridge a good match so can only suspect feedback. Ensure that turntable is positioned away from directly radiated sound from speakers and if your rack has an adjustable top shelf ensure that the shelf is level and that it is sitting securely on the spikes.
