Digital rocording with an iMAC.

Is there any settings to change to be able to record via mike input? I was using Audacity.
I seem to be able to get a signal via copper cable but not with a optical one.

I was trying to use the DAC in a Sony JE520 MDP , it was showing a C71 error so may be the signal is not getting through the MDP?
Again OK with copper cable.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I take it the sony is outputting digitally?

On the mac you need to use the mic input using an SPDIF cable with a mini SPDIF connector on it.

Just check under Sound in the preferences that its using the right input. You can also check in the audio midi set up application.

If the sony is outputting and the input is set to the digital then the sound pref should show some action on the level meter, otherwise its ain't receiving anything.

Howard, a thought just occurred - you were setting the MD to record?

Thanks garyi I had a feeling it would be you answering .
I suspect the MDP is not outputting digitally.
I think it's something to do with analogue into the MDP but I want digital output.

Sound and Midi settings look OK to me. I'll try again tomorrow , I will record some thing and see if I can get any digital O/P from MDP and hear it on the MAC.
Then try to get signal through the MDP.

Tony yes set to Record/pause(I think).
