Another iTunes question.
Posted by: tonym on 05 July 2009
Having ripped my entire CD collection to a NAS in Apple Lossless, I'm now needing to convert a few tracks into MP3 so I can transfer them onto an SD card to play in SWMBO's car.
My question is, can the tracks I convert (don't know how to do this yet) then be converted back somehow without loss, or do I need to burn duplicates as MP3s?
Help and advice would be most kindly received!

You can convert to MP3 - it'll keep the original lossless files.

Once you convert from lossless to MP3 some info is lost so you cannot go back to lossless without losing something, so always keep a copy of your lossless files.
Converting to MP3 is a breeze within itunes , ctrl-click (on mac) on the selected files and choose create mp3 version.

Thanks for the advice, but for some reason when I do this, it only gives the option to 'Create Apple Lossless Version" - even though it is already! (I checked)

Goto preference and change the import method to MP3.
This will now appear as your conversion choice when you right click. God knows why they do it this way.
