Cable Connection between TT and pre (length?!)
Posted by: Reto D on 24 August 2003
Hi,
I'm wondering if there are any restrictions concering length of cable connection bet. an LP 12 and the pre(sound quality, etc).
My problem is that I could not place the source near the pre...
Thanks.

Possibly - cartridge signals are very delicate and I'd guess (from a layman's perspective) that the longer the length of cable, the more that signal will degrade and additionally the more that cable will act as an antennae to receive RFI.

Mind you it would be swank for me as i could put the deck near my listening position.
What about if you have a prefix or something at the phono end, and then the lead going to the pre from the stage is longer?

I have discussed this with Mark Raggett in the service dept.
He strongly recommended not to increase the length of the Prefix lead, but did say that (if using a HiCap) it would be relatively OK to have a long lead from the PS to the preamp. This latter is just a signal cable, and does not carry power.
