Just enjoying one of the frequent outings of "A Secret Wish".

Definitely one of my favourite records of all time.

Question is does anyone know of anything similar out there???

Totally agree I love playing this album – but no – I haven’t found anything similar. I think they broke up after just this album?

I haven't played that album for years! It was one of my all time favs. I'm going to have to track down a CD now that you've mentioned it Big Grin

What Nick said.

For completeness, there's Outside World which contains yet more (good) remixes and one unreleased track - which isn't a treasure by any stretch of the imagination.

1234 is good also, but in it's own right - if you're looking for Secret Wish 2 - forget it!

I don't think A Secret Wish can be topped and I don't know of anything even vaguely similar.
If I had to give it all away, this is the one CD I'd keep.

There was a single I bought about the same era which I seem to remember had echoes of Propaganda, It was Drowning in Berlin by the Mobiles.May have just been one hit wonders though.

................and don't forget Claudia Brucken's solo effort "Love: And A Million Other Things"..........

'Kiss like Ether' stands out.....................

Love and A Million.... again, good in it's own right as was ACT, but A Secret Wish has never been recaptured - which is probably a good thing. Makes it stand out all the more.

There are rumours, counter roumors, wispers and denials that the original line up (or at least 3/4) will reform. They were even said to be in the stuido at one stage (I think it was late '99). Probably all shaggy dog stories.

Cruising the usual sites tonight I see that A Secret Wish has been released on SACD. There's also a 20th anniversary edition of the CD which is bundled with a DVD containing four videos. Play look to be doing a good price on that.

Where's that Harry? Play?

Jay

Yeah Jay. www.play.com.
Not sure if the SACD is remastered (and that's a mixed blessing anyway) but the CD+DVD looks like the original recording. For a sad fan like me it's a no brainer.

Anyone reading this got any favourite CD suppliers? I need to broaden my list.

Thanks

I have the 'Outside World' version which was a 2-disc option. The second disk is a DVD with 7 tracks, videos and even a TV commercial for 'Duel'

It is numbered as ZTT180CDX

Bought ASW years ago and it was subequently nicked, bought a replacement and... the replacement was different. My original one finished with Dr. M rather than Strength to Dream, but it was a longer mix that ended up with what is Strength to Dream plus a bit more. Different version of the opening track too. I've never seen a version that didn't end up with Strength to Dream since, can anyone shed any more light on this?

Pete.

Thanks for the tip nap-ster.

Pete - are you talking about the vinyl or CD? So far as I knew the CD has always been as you outlined. If you did have a different CD, it was probably an oddity and it's a shame you had it swiped. I have heard LPs which had slightly different mixes on them but this is going back a long time. I also had a cassette of A Secret Wish which contained essentially the same tracks as the CD but in a different running order, plus different mixes - I must have a look in case I've still got it buried somewhere.

Harry, it was a CD both times (the thieves left all the vinyl!). Aside from the track listing the packages didn't have any obvious differences, though obviously I can only work from memory there. Looks like the remix/alternatives album may be the one to get for the bigger/stronger/longer Dr. M!

Bad luck Pete. My Secret Wish CD has got the big long Dr M as the last track. Outside World has 3 Dr M remixes, all good, but none as long as the Secret Wish version - which even has a drum machine solo! One can only hope tongues were in cheeks.

If you're going for A Secret Wish on CD you've got 3 options at present:
1. 20th anniversary which has an identical track listing to my 1986 purchase (with the long Dr M) plus a DVD with four videos.
2. SACD
3. The bog standard issue which is almost certainly 1 above minus the DVD.

I've hunted all over for the Outside World CD+DVD. Looks like I missed it. Oh well...

One of all time favourite singles was Duel.

Somehow, I bought a 12" which I thought contained that track because I'd never seen the spelling and by mistake I ended up with Jewel.....

I remember hearing a long version of Duel - can anyone tell if the long version appears as the long version on any CD and if so, which one?

In anticipation.........

Computers are supposed to work on 1's and 0's - in other words "Yes" or "No" - why does mine frequently say "Maybe"?......

There's a longer version of Duel on Wishful Thinking , excerpts of which I've heard used on the telly for backing tracks. I don't think it's much longer. Outside World has a mix of Duel and Jewl fused (kind of) which is interesting and a bit longer. I doubt either of these is the mix you're talking about Blythe.

Thanks Harry,
I think there was a single release of about 3 minutes and then there was a slightly longer one of about 5 minutes. But I am pretty sure there was a 12" version, maybe 7 or 8 minutes long...
Trouble with most of the discography listings I've seen don't mention the track playtimes.
I will check out the link above though :-)

Martin.

That was the one I originally had, but current versions are different, without the drum machine solo version and a final track "Strngth to Dream" which is actually in the coda to Dr. M. on the '86 version.

OTOH, Dream Within A Dream comes out rather stronger on the newer version of the disc. Looks like I'll need a second hand copy of the original '86 pressing to get my Dr. M. back as I remembered it :-(

Pete.

Thank you!

I checked it out and found the title of the CD's of interest, did a search on Amazon.com and have a couple of Propaganda CD's on their way to me - including one with the 7 minute version of Duel :-)

Appreciate your help.

Martin.
