Have on home demo at the moment.1986 vintage.Seller wants £750.I need to upgrade aerial.
Would be grateful for any advice on VFM.[So far it sounds very nice and matches all the other green boxes:this was a comment from my wife so she's happy for me to buy it!]

if it's an '86 vintage shouldn't it be in a chrome bumper box? As far as vfm goes, I recently picked up a 101 of the same age for £425...

Simon,
I have seen 101's going for less than £750 infact I have seen NAIT02 i.e the model that replaced it for less. I would have thought £500 would be closer the mark.

That serial number would make it an '88 model but it's still not worth £750...

NAT 101/Snaps

When Naim first brought out the then new olive range the kind guys from Salisbury put the occasional old chrome bumper kit into the new boxes as special favours for valued customers.

If you look at the back of the tuner and Snaps you will find the chrome bumper. It could be turned around either way - with the chrome strip at the back the front of the boxes look identical to the olive style.

I don't know how many 'conversions' NAIM did but I'd guess the 101/Snaps is rare in this form.

In the future I believe that it could be upgraded by adding a modified Hi-Cap to improve the Tuner.

Another thread posted a few months ago speculated that the 101/Snaps was one of their finest tuners.

All the best

Thanks for that:you're spot on and it does look and sound[despite crappy aerial] quite special.

Looks like I'll be buying then!

Simon,

Can you post a pic of the 101..I have never seen a green 101...mine is classic black/silver (goes with the 252/500 nicely)

Maybe not their best tuner, but perhaps the coolest looking. Got to love that analog dial. I bought mine soley based on looks and the "retro" factor. Oh it sounds really good too!

Holy smokes...yer just a hop skip and a jump from Seattle. Nice view. Next time I venture North I will drop bye. I would love to hear that 101/Hicap.
