Tony Blair resigns tomorrow
Posted by: Rasher on 09 May 2007
I suppose it's been a rollercoaster 10 years, and thank goodness the Conservative reign ended, but has it been all bad?
Apart from the obvious issue, is there anyone that could have done a better job under pressure of office?
I remember being absolutely elated when Labour first defeated the Tories.
(I promise I won't start any more threads after this one)

Whatever you may think of Tony Blair, the prospect of that thief and wastrel, Gordon Stalin-Brown as PM fills me with a terrible foreboding...

Gordon Brown, yes, living proof that Care in the Community is, or isn't, working, depending on your point of view.

I hope he resigns and promptly gets arrested. There is an in-depth documentary on Stalin-Brown on the box soon - is it channel 4?

Yes, and in that they are the same as every other political party in the world I would suggest. I am told that Bush's inner circle snigger every time the name 'Blair' is mentioned. I don't know if that is true but Blair is an almighty disgrace all the same. I agree, who would want 'I was Bush's lap dog' on their CV? I am told Blair intends to set up aa foundation to bring Jew, Muslim and Christian together. Bloody good luck to him says I, but I can't imagine the Muslims trusting him, why the hell should they?

I still have this niggling idea that when the PM resigns we should have a general election to decide the next. Perhaps this is especially the case when the outgoing one has been so 'presidential'.
As for Brown, well I really am not sure what he stands for, or indeed what he will do. One thing is for sure though, he will have to energise the party and kick some momentum into the government or I think the next election could be a disaster for him, and Labour.

He only resigns as leader of the Labour party.
Not Prime Minister.
Yet...

Songs for the occasion
Mr. Brown goes off to town on the 8:21.
But he comes home each evening and he's ready with his gun.
But I know he's a moron. Gordon is a moron
hhhmmmm or perhaps
Meet the new boss, same as the ol' boss

Yes, Iraq casts a massive shadow over Blair.
Putting that to one side we have:
-Lower unemployment than under the Tories
-Devolution to Wales, Scotland AND Northern Ireland
-Minimum wage. Even the Tories have backed down from attacking this.
In the past 5 years I've had to go to hospital A&E Department 3 times. Each time in waiting room I didn't have time to finish reading the newspaper article I was reading. Yes, a wait of less than 5 minutes. I challenge the private sector to match that.

The unemployment figures are fiddled because there are now over 2 million claiming incapacity benfit...neat trick of govt statistics.
Devolution is a success?
I spent over 18 months waiting for an operation on the NHS...until my employer (the govt!)paid for me to go private- done in 10 days.
I'm not aware that private medicine runs any A&E depts, so not sure how your point has any validity.

That's the problem. Too many people have bought the spin and allowed this to be "put to one side" 'cause "we are where we are" and "we've got to look forward not back". Try telling that to the families of the dead, on whichever side you care to choose.
If the misrepresentation that went with Blair's spin to Parliament and the nation wasn't a crime, well.....
Like I say, he should be locked up.

No, but in politics, errors of judgment and failure carry a far higher tarrif than success.
That's life.

Looks like we've got another six weeks of the poster boy from Mad magazine, then it'll be summer recess, still we've been without proper government for so long now, another three months or so wont make much difference. Not that it's likely to be any better after Gordon is annointed.

When Nigel Lawson was chancellor he did some awful things. When he later resigned we learned that those decisions were not his own but were direct orders from Thatcher.
I know there is a lot of trepidation with Gordon Brown as PM, but it may be that we haven't actually seen him at full potential. Anyway, it looks as if we are now going to find out, so we might as well sit back and watch. It isn't impossible that we have a nice surprise, especially on foreign policy.

Yes it does. It shows criminals and terrorists that if they bomb and murder long enough, they can get into govt, and that people who murdered soldiers on UK soil can be let out of jail after 18 months.

Do you have a better way to solve the NI problem then Jo?
