Paddy McAloon - I Trawl The Megahertz[/URL]

This sounds interesting. A solo release by Paddy McAloon drawing on his experience of being temporarily blind. He listened to short wave radio conversations and took snippets of random dialogue to build into songs. Some of the text is then spoken by Yvonne Connors. Collaborating is Mr.McFall's Chamber. Quite a moving piece of work.

Mine arrived yesterday, the day of release, all the way from Hong Kong cd-wow.com actual HK site http://www6.cd-wow.com.hk/ £7.49 and it is totally fantastic - most amazing stuff he's done for years. Produced by Callum Malcome too Smile

Thanks for the info- I just ordered a copy from that site. Tower records have never even heard of it; Amazon.com wants $35.99 for it, plus shipping charges!!! I paid just over $12 from the HK site, and shipping was free.

Listening for the first time at the moment. It is nearly all instrumental pieces with bags of really lush and intricate strings. The lyrics that are there are very deep and not of the type designed to put a smile on your face!

Methinks this album will reveal a great deal through repeated listenings. Deep stuff indeed.

Sounds great on the walkman, looking forward to cranking it up on the system later. Calum Malcolm's production sounds as good as ever.

Recommended.

jayd,

How can they do that? That's amazing. Let me know how the transaction goes - if it works, I might be ordering a fair amount from HK.

cheers,

Well Dan, 2 weeks and counting since they supposedly posted my disc, and still nothing. Their stated shipping time was 5-7 days.

In their favor, they responded promptly to my email inquiry, although it didn't have any effect. And I quote:

quote:

I realise that you should have received your order by now as we state a
delivery period of up to 7 working days from the date of dispatch.

However, Royal Mail have informed us that they have experienced a
logistical problem in relation to a few items dispatched that day and
because of this, delivery will take a little longer than usual. Whilst
the logistics are beyond our control, please do accept our apologies for
the inconvenience caused.

With this in mind, can I please ask you to allow a further 4 working
days as we hear on the grapevine that Royal Mail are now starting to
deliver these items.

Thank you for your patience and co-operation and I hope that this most
unusual occurrence will not deter you from visiting us in the future.

I'll keep you posted.

Re. ordering from CDWOW hong kong - as the prices are in HK dollars did your credit card provider hit you with a currency exchange charge? I've got hosed with this before when buying stuff in another currency.

the prices are not in HK dollars and so you do not get hit for any currency exchange costs. I have bought over 60 CD's from CDWOW and have never encountered any problems. Most arrive within three days which is better than any purchases from other omline retailers.

cheers

My copy finally arrived, in fine shape. It's "copy protected", much to my consternation, and doesn't track in my car cd player (perhaps as a result?). All things considered, I'd certainlyorder from CDWOW again, especially for something as hard to find as this was.

Musically speaking, it's either utter rubbish or it's among the more profound discs I've ever purchased. Not sure yet, but leaning toward the latter. Either way, it's clear that the guy went through something serious, and he provides the listener a startling glimpse into that experience.

PS- No SARS symptoms yet. I do feel a touch warm, but hell, that's probably just the monkeypox.

Just got mine a few days ago. Thanks to the nice Chris at Audio Excellence in Bristol for the chip for my CDX - wouldn’t play without skipping due to the disk not being a CD. Great album though on first 2 listens
