Panda Bear - Person Pitch

I'm not sure that there are many Animal Collective fans here these days, but even if you're not I can thoroughly recommend the solo album by one of them - Panda Bear.

Imagine if Brian Wilson had worked with Phil Spector in an age when sampling was available...but goodness only knows what their drug of choice would have been...and you have the closest approximation I can give in writing as to what Panda Bear sounds like.

There are a couple of tracks (or edits of) on his Myspace site and a couple of videos.

If you like those then the whole album is that strong (and in a similar style). Most impressive.

Thought I'd better crawl in and show a bit of solidarity Gary. I came to AC late via Feels. Took me an age to get my head around it too and, even now, I'm still not sure. However, I have a friend who recommended the solo stuff and I have to say that I prefer it. Indeed, I'd go as far as to say that this is one of my fave albums of this year, which is not something I anticipated saying as January commenced. Hard to describe it to other people though isn't it? Without it sounding like whimsical experimentation I mean.

Phew, I was beginning to think I should have posted this in Off Topic. Winker I was mildly surprised that 30+ people had looked at it but found nothing to comment on (even if it was to say it was crap). It's not exactly everyday music is it? Ah well.

I know what you mean - there are times I play Feels and think it's a work of greatness and others when I have to take it off because it's driving me barmy. Like you, Person Pitch just does the trick for me all the way through every time.

Gary, Don't worry there are some of us out here...AC are a great band, always stimulating and interesting - Black Dice too and of course the ever wonderful DeerHoof. I'll check out Panda B's solo outing which I know has had good reviews. Grizzly Bear's Yellow House is in a different vein but lovely too...
Thanks for the recomendation - cheers- Mike
