Nait 3 w/flatcap or 5i

Posted by: 74impala on 24 February 2004

I have the choice of either a s/h Nait 3 with flat cap or a new Nait 5i for about the same amount ($50 difference). Any opinions which to go with?

If you are not a vinyl lover, or if you are, and do not plan on using Naim's Stageline, I would go for the 5i. Just a personal opinion from a current Nait5 owner who has demoed the 5i.

Some prefer the Nait 3
Just listen both and decide

The 5i is $1350. $1300 (if you are paying list) seems too high for a Nait 3/flatcap.

I echo the above comments regarding the possibility of using vinyl. I had a choice between a Nait5 and a 5i and I went with the 5: I can power the Stageline from it (I just bought an LP12) AND I can upgrade it with a Flatcap which SHOULD make it behave better than the 5i.

I'd say John Toon is right on the button.

Do you have a '74 Impala?

If so; can we have a photo please?

What's this about paying less if you are paying "list". Are dealers tacking on a premium for the nait5i?

Eric,

Either I really misunderstood my local dealer or something fishy is going on. I swore they quoted $1100 for a 5i. When I went back the price was $1350.

J.N.,

Don't have any 74 impalas right now. One of my hobbies, other than listening to music, is doing demolition derby. If you're serious I could email you a picture, although the car would be smashed up.

I was hoping you had a nice road going example.

Do you wear ear-plugs during your other hobby, to protect your valuable hearing?

I ride a motorcycle and never without ear-plugs.

J.N.,

I wear a helmut but no ear plugs. Check out

if you want to see old Chevys

Should I be posting this some where other than the Naim forum?
