Drool

Obviously a biased view, but the sounds coming from the room this year were sweet.

I must confess the treble harshness often associated with naim (in my experience) has gone, and I mean gone, but not at the expense of the fantastic Prat. The room was a little large, and empty so a little echoey but not to bad, one of the better rooms I have heard, plus of course it was quite a way from anyone else.

On live display was the new naim NAC552? (52 pre amp replacment) this is fronted with the new look supercap and naim nap 300(I think) this is a new product coming in between the new 250 and 500, its a two box affair and I want me one right now. Also playing, the new naim CDX2 powered by a new XPS, all into SL2s.

On static display was the new flagship CDS3 its totally gorgeous looking (although apparently no where near finished) the lid is now central, and gives the whole thing a symitrical finsh. Also in on static display: the new 102, 82, 52, 250, 180 and 300. Although I have forgot there names.

Yup thats right totally new across the board, we can soon look forward to a bit of a naim second hand market again!

I also had a look around! I was well impressed with the AE small speaker room, man those little things rocked. However they come it at around 2000 with the stands and frankly they felt cheap for that, but still good sound.

I was not massivly taken with anything else I am afraid. there was one room on the Meridian side with them Halbrook? Amps which are H shaped, and a load of phat cables going into these speakers, with loads of shon mook crap around and frankly the treble could strip paint, I was not impressed and told the man so as well. I have no idea how much this cost, but I do know its a lot.

Oh there was a valve based room playing vinyl, that sounded fantastic, really fast.

The naim AV room sounded fantatstic, but I can't comment on the ultimate quality as it was playing Underworld at gut disovling levels like every other AV room the volume was over the top and for 99% of potential purchasers well outside their remit as they would be pissing off entire rows of houses.

I also picked up Mr Scruffs latest and Another late night both on vinyl so all in all a good day. The diverse stand had far to much that I wanted however I set a budget!

Herm am I to understand therefore you were in light grey tracksuit bottoms and jesus sandles?

Hammy, I don't agree about the sound being more laid back at all, I would say simply more refined, all the energy was there in spades, and all that kit with the new lights looks fantastic.

Doh!

BTW why if Mark Levinson kit is so good why is it never playing?

all the hifi shows I have been to( and there have a number) never has levinson playing.

Gary,

I have a confession to make.

In fact I have several confessions to make, but I know there's only so much you can handle.

As far as I recall, I have never owned or worn a pair of sandals. In fact I have a well-established reputation of being a relentless shoe snob, wearing impossibly shiny and expensive brogues and loafers, and owning a daunting number of them. (This all, of course, considered in the context of my not being an hugely successful hifi-dealer or the scion of exiled Russian aristocrats.)

The closest I have ever been to track suit bottoms was an American girlfriend of mine, but (I hate to tell you) that bottom was pretty exclusive.

Final confession, I wasn't just not-wearing the offensive items, I also was not at the show, as my typing that needling Style Police comment in the comfort of my own study would indicate.

So these are my confessions for the time being...

Welcome Hammy. So am I to infer you're not only sixteen but also interested in classical music? How did that happen? Some terrible accident in your tender years? If so, I'm hoping you intend to visit the Music Room henceforth; especially the classical threads could use a little young blood.

Good for you, kid.

Nonetheless, do visit the Music Room, which is the best place by far in this Forum, with wild guys and ancient hippies like Nick Lees spending fortunes on totally off-the-wall trance stuff and living to tell the story...

There's a time and a place for everything - especially TEVA's (help me out here, Joe-bub).

But deciding whats appropriate style amongst what amounts in distillation to a bunch of nerdies is just too much - next you'll be outlawing cardigans - and their associated valve amps, pipes, and slippers! eek

Can we have some objective feedback here Gizmogirl?

Tevas ae fine, but they accumulate sand. My Reefs just let it out again -- superior IMHO...

Paul Messenger was there then?

I spent the weekend wearing neoprene.

I thought everyone was trying to look like the comic-store guy from the Simpsons.

I went on Friday and there was some 1st class talent in the female department. Whehey!

Only downside was that the Naim electronics were still un-run-in and cold...shucks...but the girlies definitely made up for it! :-)

Frank.

Its true there were indeed a number of very beutiful women there, all selling the stuff or working at the hotel I noted, what a shame therefore so many people attending the show couldn't even break out the BO basher.

Its nothing to do with the style police and everything to do with having respect for ones self and others.

The young people of today... I dunno. I know you had tongue in cheek but I long for the attitude of the late 60s and early 70s when no one cared what you wore. This is probably because I'm a lousy dresser.
