Are you allowed to think words like that?
And how's P's CD5i? He seemed a little stunned at TonyM's on Saturday!

A call to the DHL depot would appear to be in order.

Did you listen to his DIY dac by any chance?

John,
As you can imagine he is in 7th heaven, and he will hang on to the CDP for many years to come. He really is a MUSIC fan first and foremost.
Even stone cold it all sounded great in his modestly-proportioned living room, so will only improve. I adjusted the amount of blutack on the speaker stands and relaxed the cables for him; a pleasure to do so.
In due course, I’m sure he’ll go for a full service for his 140 and – if I have any influence over him – the 32-5 too. The gobsmacking swap from the grey to black Snaic I think got him to realise just how much improvement can be got from relatively cost-effective things.
Mike,
I tried, believe me! Unfortunately, there is of course only a generic phone number and you get into one of those awful loops, inviting you to book another time by pressing your keypad...
Frustrated are us.
James

It's not just DHL, happens to me all the time. I think there are days where these guys have all their little cards pre-written just to end their tour early.

Sorry, you were out...
You were out and your:
Recorded Signed For...
Royal Mail Tracked...
International item...
Letter...
Packet... X
Catalogue...
Special Delivery...
because
A signature is required...
It's too big for the letterbox...X
I couldn't be bothered to knock & wait...X
Happened to me on Saturday with an LP (packet) one of my colleagues tried to deliver.
I was sleeping off the night-shift when he called, and he obviously didn't knock loud enough.
I'm a light sleeper, and up like a flash when there's a packet delivery.
Fortunately Royal Mail have an on line facility that's let's you book the item for re-delivery, still annoying because it takes a few more days, but the alternative for me is a 25 round trip drive to the callers office in town.
My LP was re-delivered today.

Sadly, JWM spotted that my pathetic attempt at 'Lecrosetting" on the front of said DAC had resulted in a crooked "a", so obviously listening to it was completely out of the question.
I've had lots of problems with carriers and DHL in particular. There are two other cottages hereabouts with the same name as ours which causes no end of problems (the website asks you to rearrange delivery, just put in the code on the card...)
The best ploy is to complain to the vendor directly. My last complaint to the company I purchased the item from resulted in a call from a DHL customer services lady. When I explained that the postcode was different and surely the driver's Sat.Nav. would have led them to the right place I learned that these are not supplied "Unless the driver's bought his own"
I note that Amazon are now using the Home Delivery network for some items. Perhaps they can't cope with the extra business but so far they've proved pretty hopeless. I've discovered the phone number of their depot by Googling & at least you can get to talk to a human, albeit often one with not much of a clue about customer relations.

I am surprised you don't have a sort of secret sign so "the postman always rings twice"

I'm really struggling to believe that couriers would leave a packet in the van and walk up your path with a card. Why would he do that? Was it a particularly heavy or dangerous packet? Does it not seem possible the bloke had already tried the door, (maybe not as thouroughly as you'd like) failed to get your attention and gone back to the van for the card?

Sadly David, no. The doorbell is loud enough to wake the dead.
I think it was because the driver saw no car in the drive (being serviced) and just assumed no-one in, so just carded.
From my study chair which is cunningly placed to be able to see callers before they see me, I watched someone walk straight up the drive, flap of the letterbox, and walk back again. I assumed it was a hand-delivered message (I get quite a few); when I went to pick it up, it was the DHL card...

Ah!, but there's no door bell, and i don't like getting knocked up by my Postman, nor want to have his babies!quote:Originally posted by Julian H:

Although i do have a... not so secret sign that reads...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
P A R C E L~D E L I V E R Y ?
Yes i am in!
Please knock door Loudly!
I'll be as quick as i can!
Thanks
I stick this on the front door (with a bit of duck tape because it's re-usable) whenever i am in the house somewhere (like sleeping off night-shift) and expecting a packet or parcel delivery, and i'm pleased to say it does actually work. Well, except for one occasion when i still got a card on the door mat with the sign on, don't know why... probably while dozing away in bed dreaming of a different kind of packet : )
Another idea i've pondered is buying one of those lockable bins that are bolted securely to your house near the door, so the delivery person can put the packet inside; regardless as to whether the householder is in or out.
However, these can be expensive, and are no good if the packet/parcel needs a signature or is too big for the size of bin, but i'm very interested in any recommendations for one of these bins that's big enough for (packaged) LP's to go in, like the one in the picture above.
Had this on Tuesday with Parcelfarce. At the time stated on the card I was no more than 20ft from the door and 3ft from the doorbell. Buggers must have tiptoed up and posted the card, being careful not to let the letterbox flap slam down as I'd have heard that. Fortunately they do leave the parcels at the local Post office that's only 4 miles away.
