Remote volume control on 252

Posted by: DQ on 20 September 2010

Does anyone know how to get internet based remote control of volume on 252 or other pre-amp with RS232 coonnection(e.g., ipod touch, iphone etc). I saw that this will be included in the NDX, but that is probably not the route for me.

Many thx

The NDX controls a Naim preamp and DAC using the hard wired RC5 inputs on the rear of the units and sends the preamp and DAC the appropriate IR control codes.

There's no ethernet or internet control on those units but of course if you wanted to do so you could use the RS232 port if fitted.

DQ - though not RS232, this may be of interest.

Google red eye and red eye mini.

Phil,

Okay, I understand the NDX option however, what do you mean by "if you wanted to do so you could use the RS232 port if fitted".

The RS232 port is an option. It can be supplied and fitted by your dealer. It gives a more comprehensive control over RC5 and allows integration of control into various multiroom systems.

Of course a Crestron or AMX type system is probably overkill for what you want, but RS232 is pretty much a "standard" interface and Naim is fairly well supported now by most of them. The Red Eye system James mentions above my be more what you're looking for.

Many thanks for the advice here. Much appreciated. Think I will try a red eye, will make the decision on UnitiServe easier.

One other thing, anyway to get Apple Genius like functionality (hopefully smarter than that) on Naim platform? That and the volume control are the only things between me and a unitiserve.

Cheers
