tweak of the day

Talking of tweaks here one that works in my system
The sound from my Epos ES22's was a little harsh so I looked at some ways to tame it but without losing important treble information.
These two worked wonders.
1.The speakers rest on four spikes through the carpet onto the concret floor.I think this rigidity was causing a resonant peak in the treble.Think of holding a ruler at one end and fliking the top.it will spring back and fore. This is what playing music is doing to a speaker anchored to the floor at the bottom,it will resonate at a very high frequency, some systems will benifit from this mine wasn't.
Putting the speaker direclty onto the carpet didn't work as it now became too unstable and blurred the sound.(think of the ruler in your palm ,flick that and it will fliy all over the place)
So I left the two front spikes it connected to the ground and put a single pulsar point (subsitute with any kind of plunt spike)at the back of each speaker. This rests on the carpet not through it to the concreat floor.
Now the speaker is quite solid so it doesnt rock but has a slight conpliance so that the resonant peak is gone.(think of holding the ruler losely so you stil grip it but not too tight).
The sound is now much better balanced with a fuller midrange and less peaky treble.
2.Clean the mains plugs and wall socket. There seams to be a problem with my wall socket and plugs as they keep getting dirty quickly(dirt not oxidisation) , they need to be cleaned every few weeks,I think may be dirt is getting in from the wall into the sockets.I will sort this one day.
