Stuck in Mono
Posted by: Graham Ridgway on 08 March 2006
My DVD5/AV2 setup seems to be stuck in mono for dolby 5.1 discs. It can work out DTS ok, but dolby 5.1 discs now seem to all play in mono. Cycling the AV2 through the 'inputs' gives no signal on everything except mono!
I am a numpty on how to drive this stuff, so have no idea how to problem solve! The problem *seemed* to start when I played Das Boot (for the first time) and selected the German 5.1 track.
Tthanks in advance!

Make sure you have AV2 -> DVD5 digital coax/optical securley fitted.
Make sure you set AC3 5.1(DD) track on disc menu and play film.
Pressing "mode" button on AV2 selects decode mode when playing film (mono->stereo->auto), not "input". Auto should then lock to 3/2.1 with DD light on.

Thanks, I'll check the connection. The disk was def set to AC3 5.1 (you can see it on the on-screen status line thing).
If I had set the mode to mono (which is perfectly possible as I was fiddling when I couldn't get Das Boot to work properly), would a DTS film play properly (as it does) or would that still be in mono?
I'll fiddle this evening!

You are able to set a DD5.1 track as mono and DTS as 3/2.1 on the AV2, or in fact any combination
I suspect you accidently selected mono via the mode button on your remote instead of pressing the audio button, as mono is the next setting after auto (3/2.1) (mono-stereo-auto)
