Lambchop - Live
Posted by: calum scott on 08 December 2002
The quintet played Aberdeen on Friday night and were really amazing. The Lemon Tree is a pretty small and intimate venue, feels like you're in someone's living-room and really suited their music. The music loses very little in translation form the 13 piece to the 5 piece band.
It's funny to see their latest CD offering being mentioned in both the highlights and lowlights of 2002 issues on the "3 of the best thread" but whatever you think the live show is worth seeing/hearing. Anybody near Wrexham still has the chance to catch them tonight.
Cheers

What CD would you recommend as an intro to someone who would like to explore Lambchop's repertoire?
I was looking at buying 'Nixon' but maybe there are better choices??

Dave,
I only have Nixon and like it. Americana?, it's pretty hard to describe what they do.
I seem to remember doing a search on the forum before buying it and there are some threads with comtributions by those who know more of the catalogue.
Do the search thing or better still just buy it, it's pretty cheap if you look around.
Cheers,

Can anyone recommend site that advirtise when bands are playing etc?
I am really quite dissapointed about this as I didn't even know they were giging.
Thanks for the run down on albums, I didn't know of the first two.
Is a women is fantastic. No word of a lie I had the parents up a few months back and stuck on the first track on vinyl. As soon as his voice kicked in Mum burst into tears, she couldn't explain why but bought the album that day.
I think I'll put it on now.

CD Zone have the Double LP of 'Is A Woman' on offer at £9.50 which is cheaper than the CD. 'Nixon' is also on offer at similar prices. Anybody comment on the comparative quality of the LP/CD versions?
I guess LP should be better but it aint always the case in the real world.

You need to buy some of the music press Garyi. They might not talk about Zappa anymore, but you may be suprised and find some useful stuff in there.

I have the LP version of Is a Woman and Nixon. Most on here will rave about the audio quality of Is a woman, and indeed the piano is superbly recorded. But I find the bass bloated and completely overblown and boomy, some of this is undoubtedly my setup but this is one of only a handful of recordings that coause me a problem, so beware if you have a system prone to this.
Nixon is fine, audio wise, and also a much better choice (IMO) if you like tunes on your vinyl

Have you actually been able to compare the two formats together on your system?

Yes indeedy dave, The day my mum got it on CD, I geeked to the max on the first track, CD versus Vinyl.
Of course I couldn't get the volumes quite right but the vinyl was better, although in the quietest bits there is a degree of surface noise which obscures some very subtle stuff, this might be my deck set up though.
I think for a tenner the vinyl is an excellent buy.
