Calling all Canadians

Hi there - shortly moving to Edmonton, Alberta. Need to know which is the equivelant of Richer Sounds (crime I know). I need to get a cheapish CD player to go with my wifes 1982 vintage Sony HiFi whilst we renovate the basement before I purchase my Naim gear. Have sourced two proper HIFI stores in the city, Audio Ark and Grammophone but just need a cheap and cheerful item til I do it properly.
Cheers

Try any of the "Big Box" retailers...such as Future Shop or Circuit City.
You should be able to pickup something for peanuts. ( or you could splurge on the 500 watt* boombox type systems, complete with graphic EQ, Turbo Bass enhancement and enough blinky lights to mesmerize a fighter pilot. )
* that would be PMPO in case yer wondering
Good Luck
regards,
michael

If you already have naim gear (or other expensive elctronics) have you considered getting them converted? I moved from UK to Toronto 2 and a half years ago. At the time I only had entry level hi fi gear so I left most of the elctronics at home, but shipped over speakers and a Denon AV amp.
I tried to get the denon converted, but no one would change it, but apparently it can be done. Since I may move back to the UK I checked with Naim before purchasing any stuff (bought a NAP200 and NAC202) and they said it can be converted so check with them before selling/storing any current gear.

Thanks for the info, I did have some Naim stuff and thought about having it converted. However I wasn't sure about dealer backup over there + it gives me a good excuse to start buying the new stuff.
I'll start at the bottom with a CD5x/112x/150x/FC2x/n-sats/n-sub with a nice Fraim + a mid price record deck and then start working up thru the components over the years. Doesn't seem to be so much second hand Naim in Canada otherwise I would have gone for a more expensive CD player and got something like a second hand 72/hicap/250 - oh well it's fun to look!!
