Today is a joyful one, a Labour governemt has recognised that Magaret Thatcher transformed our nation from the poor man of Europe into Great Britain.
A bronze statue of her is now on display in Parliament.
She confounded her enemies and has a league of fans like no other living politician.
There are those who dislike her but by now, even those useless plebs must recognise the fact, she made us what we are today.
Long may she continue to live and influence future Prime Ministers.
A great and wonderful woman.
Her legacy lives on.
Regards
Mick

Is Margaret Thatcher the first living former prime minister to be honoured in bronze in Parliament?
Posted on: 21 February 2007 by Guido Fawkes
How much did that cost?
I hope not a penny of my taxes was wasted on such a monstrosity.
Will they put one of her mate Pinochet next to her.
Why don't they honour our greatest parliamentarian - Guy Fawkes?
Thatcher was OK on Spitting Image, but otherwise just another sad politician - best forgotten about, like .... the others, who ever they were.

The answer to your question is yes.
Even the Labour party have to admit she is exceptional.

As far as wasting of taxes is concerned this should be the least of our worries. Maggie did did more than anyone before or since to reduce wasteful government. Shame she never got to finish the task, we'd all be a lot better off.

Willy.

I'm not all together surprised the Labour party have "recognised her". I feel that their policies/ideology has moved from left to centre/right, & have an awful lot in common with the tories & their traditional views.
Mr Blair is more "traditional tory" than "traditional Labour", I feel.

What a complete load of tosh!
Thatch did very little for this country; her most depressing legacy is of course Blair. All of you queuing up behind Mad Mick to heap praise on the old bag have a very shaky grasp of history, and/or very selective memories.
Still, it's fitting that she is commemorated by a mediocre piece of hackwork.
I believe it (the statue) cost £80,000. Enough to pay three nurses for a year I reckon.

I think it's a wonderful idea to have the statue of Margaret Thatcher in Parliment.
It might serve as a daily reminder to our current politicians not to repeat the atrocities of the past.

Taxes up. Public spending up. Public sector productivity down. Centralisation of command and control in Westminster...I struggle to see this shift to the right...from where I'm standing it's verging on Communism. All that's missing is the announcement of a bumper cabbage harvest and increased tractor production.

Willy.

Eh? What's your name, Joe McCarthy?
Interestingly, the Stalinisation of national life bwegan under Thatch (remember how she took power away from locally acountable authorities and centralised power) - although, to give the old witch some credit, I don't think she would ever have pursued the ridiculous, costly and unworkable ID Card scheme in the way that New Labour has. However, to take that credit back a little, she was fond of ridiculous, costly and unworkable schemes - remember the Poll Tax fiasco?

Poll tax. You'll look back fondly on that when Labour have finished rolling out the new system they've been piloting over here. Some slackarse from teh council photographing your home, "That's a lovely hi-fi you've got there citizen, we'll have to increase your rates to take account of that".

Whatever you may think of Thatcher, she did 11 years in office and won 3 elections and swung Brtiain from being a left wing joke into an entreprenuial nation.
The city now generates billions and frankly the old metal bashing industries were on their last legs anyway. The VWs and Hondas completely outclassed the British Leyland cars in terms of price, delivery and quality.
The textile and mining industries were their own worst enemies in terms of old practices and total inflexiblity.
They died because they cut their own throats, so do not waste any time feeling sorry for them.
The services sector boomed and we are now a truly affluent nation.
During those days I used to lunch quite a lot at Rules in London where there were many cartoons on the wall depicting the strong German economy and the weak british one. This was done to amuse the many germans who spent a lot of time in this fairly expensive restaurant.
Today you can go to Spain and Bulgaria and even Florida and the Brits are buying up all the properties because they got the money to do so. The Germans do not even feature, they rent now and then but they cannot even raise a deposit. They have become strapped for cash because of their massive tax bills.
In the sad old days of Callaghan, this would have been a pipe dream.
This all started from Margaret Thatcher and no one can take that away from her.
The antis may wail but no one takes any notice of them. The Tories and Labour are both more Thatcherite than ever before and they do it for a reason .. it wins votes. She may not be popular as a person but her policies still rule.
She will go down as one of the greats.
Regards
Mick

What a load of rubbish. What do Brits buying property in Spain have to do with some F#@$ing politician.
Zip
Economies swing up and down and politicians are always the first to take the credit.
Anyone who worships at the throne of some dinosaur of a Tory, ought to have his head examined. Full stop.

Yes economies do swing up and down but when Thatcher took the UK along the Monotorist route, Germany started the swing back to high tax and high expenditure.
Today the brits can afford to buy several foreign properties whilst the average German can only dream about it.
Reagan also freed up the economy and America boomed. The evidence is all around you.
The reason why Thatcher became unpopular was that she had no time for losers and lavished praise on the successful which in those days was less acceptable than what it is today.
In the old days, if you worked you got taxed and if you scived you got subsidised. Today if you work you prosper and if you scive you effectively die.
Thatcher brought about the difference.

Power mostly goes to the wrong people and Thatcher proves that without question - she set the country back years' her comtribution: nothing - she was, is and forever shall be valueless.
Still at least she made a good puppet on Spitting Image - I mean you've got laugh. So lets forget the old witch and move on.

She is barking mad of course. She surrounded herself with spineless men who got a stiffy every time she gave them a spanking and they thanked her for it afterwards. She divided the nation as never before. Her legacy is zip imo. Let's not forget she brought Mark Thatcher into the world either and for that there must certainly be some reckoning in the end.

I believe you are Italian. If I am wrong I will stand corrected. However, no one in Europe need lessons fron the Italians.
Your economy is a bloody joke just like your government or governments.
