What a load of old cobblers!
Posted by: Whizzkid on 05 April 2010
I'm in a grumpy mood so naturally I came into HiFi Corner after really quite a while of not looking at this room, I'm usually in the Music Room eating Caviar, Cucumber sandwiches and sipping Champagne with all the guys and gals in there. So after some time I think I'll take a look in here and start reading the advice in this room and thinking what a load of old cobblers (to our lovely foreign inmates its English slang for someone giving out bad or inaccurate advice).
So what do many of you Naim people think is poor advice, that is usually given out?
I'll start.....
72 is a better pre than 82. COCK
202 doesn't work properly without adding £1400 pounds worth of Power supplies to a £1650 pre, why not just buy a f'ing 282. Double COCK
Naim don't make good speakers. Usually given by people who have never heard them.
Supernait is better than 202/200, its not better than my 102/200, and Naim would be shooting themselves in the foot if it did, just bad business.
If you're not liking the sound of your kit chuck more money at it. Usually given to newbies who are having a little bit of buyer remorse as Naim is bloody expensive and also the dreaded burn in/ears adjustment time.
I listen to "weird" music now thats just slander by the noodling Jazz/grandad Rock brigade.
Valves are rubbish, whoops sorry wrong forum.
Am I deluded? correct? need to bugger off back to the music room grumpy? comments welcome.
Dean..

Dean, you're bang on the money. (though I prefer the phrase non-native English speakers to the one you used.)
Grumpy Cheers, Chris

So true. A load of people don't have a clue, some who think they know everything... There seems to have been a very high influx recently.

Another load of COCK.... 'The SuperNait really comes on song after 6 months so be patient'.
Strange how the Supernait is different to the XS which is on song from around 1-2 weeks.

Dean, right to the point as always!

And I have to agree with you on the kit comparisons.
Sorry if I seem to have wound you up a little about some of your more eclectic tastes....

Where's the fun in agreeing with everybody?
My 12s pre has just come on song BTW.

John,
Its all fun I get it from the guys all the time on all forums

especially that grandad rocker above. The OP is a bit tongue in cheek and serious at the same time, guess which bits are which.

Your post seems to indicate your are on the road to achieve 1st class grumpy status, but are nowhere close yet.
You are right & all others are wrong - read
its not better than my 102/200 - - this is the first sign of grumpy, you are right but cling to myths & self inflicted delusions of knowing better that everyone else.
Naim would be shooting themselves in the foot if it did, just bad business. - - this is the next sign - you know better than all including professional business managers, but does not explain why you are not CEO of such a business.
You have one foot stuck in the past (the good old days when men were men & we all shared a Polo etc ) - read
72 is a better pre than 82 - - a sure sign of progressive grumpism in that what might be correct & relevant 10 or 15 years ago is still important to a blinkered vision grumpy.
Your post - in my undeniably right opinion - is a bigger load of old cobblers.
Read - I secretly agree but will argue against you anyhow & I can prove it.

Nice refreshing post - but completely wrong of course
Oh BTW, you are so-o-o-o wrong about SN

Hi Dean
It's OK. I've had a couple of those "Take it off quick" comments from Julian H about some of my choices.
Having had a flick through his records he has a few howlers of his own....

Oi junior you talking about me?
Have some respect for elders.
I don't have any grand children BTW.

John, Dean and I have met several times, so it is "friendly" repartee. I think!

Quite agree. That’s COCK of the highest order. Nothing yet invented will make a 202 work.
Grumpy enough?

i prefer the cds3/252 to the cdx2/xps/282/supercap but im not a cock.
Posted on: 05 April 2010 by Guido Fawkes
Right on Dean - I'm with you all the way on this.
Posted on: 05 April 2010 by Mike Dudley
Speaking from experience, I improved the performance of my 202/200 combination by leaps and bounds. I bought a couple of power supply units for the 202.
I couldn't afford to go out and by a 282, so I was happy that the PSU's did the remarkable job that they did.
Posted on: 05 April 2010 by Whizzkid
OK some more....You buy a CDX2 instantly you need a £2.5k XPS to make it "sing".
NSats are fantastic and have great bass

, no they don't unless you add the Sub they were designed to be used with.
LP12's go out of tune really quickly all you have to do is just look at it.
Massaging your HiLine cable, Oooh err! will sort out a harsh sounding system.
Moving the cables, standing on one leg, howling at the moon, plugging the cables in/out for 2 days makes a bright system not bright.
The only way to evaluate a system is playing JS Bach's Cantata's on repeat for three weeks at realistic levels.
Depeche Mode are a must for any collection, nah! thats GREAT advice

Thanks to have posted into this part of the forum, as I don't visit much the other sections.

To add to your funny list, a couple of frequently asked questions (with answers other than the C word

)
Q: What speakers for Naim kit?
A: The ones you can listen at home.
Q: Hicap or Flatcap?
A: Hicap if you can afford it.
Q: Prob with kit, what do I do?
A: Bug everyone but the guy who sold it to you?
Q: I've got a question about Linn.
A: And you thought that Naim guys will be surely glad to assist...
Q: HOW DO I USE MY NAIM KIT?
A: Learn how to use capslock first.
Hehe...
Bye.

Dean,
spot on, you really made me chuckle - now I'll head back for my caviar and champagne.

Thanks guys,
It was as I said mainly a tongue in cheek set of observations but sometimes when I read such things they just seem ludicrous, when all of the levels of Naim for me having been privvy to hearing them through having a great dealer are capable of great sound and as you rise through the range you get improvements as you would expect from a company with nearly 40 years of experience in making kit.
