Tom Petty - The Last DJ

I picked this up on vinyl today and was quite surprised how good it was. Anyone else heard it? (I don't know how long ago it was released but I wasn't aware of it before today).

Last DJ released Autumn 2002. Only just got it myself, £6.99 from Cd-WOW. Mixed reviews. Some tracks excellent, not sure about some, doesn't have the exuberance of 'classic' Tom Petty (Free Fallin etc), Love the track 'The Last DJ' and its lyrics, released as a single in the US, no airplay as track banned by radio stations because of its views on radio playlists. The album theme seems to be on the commercialisation of music and how people like him are finding it more difficult to get airplay. Not a popular theme for Music Companies, would not be surprised to find that he leaves the label and goes his own way. Current tour in USA has been very successful. Still hoping he will come to GB, last saw him on the @Into the Great Wide Open' Tour, B'ham NEC, bought over the USA stage show and was brilliant. Have been a fan for years, the Box Set, 'Playback' is well worth an investigation. His website is also good, http//www.tompetty.com
