interconnect query

Posted by: welshmark on 26 November 2002

comments and views appreciated on a suitable lead
between my turntable (well tempered with dynavector mc cartridge) and pre-amp (82).
I am aware that I need a phono to BNC but what is the preferred lead ?
Is an ARO arm lead o.k. ?
If so do NAIM supply it with phonos ?
If no to above do I go for a CHORD interconnect and if so which one ?

Cheers

Welcome to the Forum - Good to see another WT owner out there!!

If you can get the Aro interconnect (I hink it used to be sold off the reel) you can have it terminated with RCA phonos on one end and BNC connector on the other.

If you can't then Chord would probably be able to sell you a RCA/BNC i/c - If I were you I would stick to the Chord Chrysalis and save the cash for upgrading to a Stageline/Prefix later on.

What WT and DV are you using? I am using a WT Classic with an XX-1L with a Prefix into an 82.

Thank for your welcome and reply.

I will see if Naim will cut off some Aro cable for me.

I wondered why there was a shortage of replies to my query and then realised that the majority of Naim users have bouncy LP12's.

For the record (pun intended) I am the proud owner of a WT Classic V with XX-2 cartridge.
My old 250 drives a pair of Shahinian Arcs and wonder if the new 250 will work even better.

Allthe best

We have very similar sytems -I run my WT Classic into an prefix/82/2xHi/250 and Arcs with a CDS2 for spinning Cds.

Having had 52/SC/135s in the above system (before they were nicked!) I would suggest upgrading to a prefix/your preamp (or your CD source if you have one) before changing the 250. The new one would be better (as were 135s) but there are more gains to be had by changing stuff upstream.

All the best

Sorry for the delay - Xmas, New Year etc got in the way.

You have a WT turntable with a prefix - do naim supply a prefix with phonos or is it a DIY job ?

Where do site the prefix ?

Can an old SNAPS power up a prefix ?

Which input on my 82 ought I use ? Do I take out old phono cards and replace the blanking cards ? If so is that still the best line in from the Prefix or do I use a din input ? If so which one ?

Advice and info would be much appreciated

"Do I take out old phono cards and replace the blanking cards ?"

Taking out the old cards will improve the sound of any other sources.

"If so is that still the best line in from the Prefix or do I use a din input ?"

Use a DIN input.

"If so which one ?"

#2 or #3 are probably the best.

cheers, Martin
